Genuflect Before One World: Together At Home

Secularism is a rational lens through which to perceive everyday life. It is the most logically justifiable, the most morally stable and responsible for the fewest amount of atrocities so far.

But the life we’re currently living isn’t everyday life and with every passing hour of cabin fever, the need to blame a higher power for this predicament becomes less of a tickle and more of an aggressive fingering.

It’s a psychological battle you cannot win because you are battling your own sense of logic, and when a more concrete external reality with fresh air and new stimuli melts away, your sense of logic becomes less of a set of rules to allow you to deal rationally with challenges you might face and more “that painting is watching me”.

A little break from secularism might just preserve your sanity.

And the most important choice you will make in this hell-bubble is what deity you choose to worship.

Thankfully, all the deities are holding a televised conference which will allow you to weigh their merits and pick whose beatific image you will paste all over your brain. This conference will be called ‘One World: Together At Home’.

Yes, international advocacy organization Global Citizen and the World Health Organization have announced One World: Together At Home — a globally televised and streamed special in support of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual broadcast will show unity among all people who are affected by COVID-19 and will also celebrate and support brave healthcare workers doing life-saving work on the front lines.

The event will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon of ‘The Tonight Show,’ Jimmy Kimmel of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and Stephen Colbert of ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’. Friends from Sesame Street will also be on hand to help unify and inspire people around the world to take meaningful actions that increase support for the global COVID-19 response.

Curated in collaboration with Lady Gaga, the concert will also include Alanis Morissette, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Burna Boy, Chris Martin, David Beckham, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, FINNEAS, Idris and Sabrina Elba, J Balvin, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, Kerry Washington, Lang Lang, Lizzo, Maluma, Paul McCartney, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Shah Rukh Khan and Stevie Wonder.

The event will be broadcast live on Network 10 and MTV on Foxtel and Fetch on Sunday, and simulcast on 10 Play and mtv.com.au. It will also be a multi-hour digital broadcast streaming online on multiple global platforms, including: Alibaba, Amazon Prime Video, Apple, Facebook, Instagram, LiveXLive, Tencent, Tencent Music Entertainment Group, TIDAL, TuneIn, Twitch, Twitter, Yahoo and YouTube.

Your sense of reality as synthesised by secular logic can no longer be trusted. The walls are melting. The bird on the windowsill is listening to your thoughts.

It’s time to surrender your mind to a god with an established directive, whether that be “thick thighs save lives”, “buy my undies”, “everything, including this spoon, is ironic” or “meep, meep, meep, MEEP”.
