6) Bite Club

30th June

What: Welcome to the return of Bite Club – the arty dinner party – an immersive culinary cabaret theatre experience. Bite Club features Brisbane’s award-winning cult-cabaret mischief makers, circus stars and heart-stopping hooligans Briefs Factory International, as they go head-to-head with much celebrated and sainted song bird Sahara Beck. In an event sautéed in hedonistic haze, guests will be treated to a shotgun wedding and table settings of music, circus, drag, burlesque, theatre and comedy.

4) NAIDOC Exhibition Opening Night

3rd July

What: In late 2020, Birrunga and Harry reunited after decades. Both men grew up on Kabi Kabi land, Badderam (Buderim), and share a love and connection to Country as well as history. After viewing a show of Harry’s works, Birrunga realised Harry ‘knew Country’, it was clear as day in the beautiful landscapes Harry captured. Importantly, Country recognised Harry as well, an uncommon thing for a non-First Nations person. This gave life to the spark of a collaboration. Experience the astonishing result.

Why: One three hour opening night and you’re guilt-free till next year.

3) Mary Poppins Festival 

1st-4th July

What: This year’s Festival presents a four day program of storytelling for all ages through all art forms. From music concerts backstage and onstage at the Brolga to pop up performances in the Bond Store Basement. The signature event is the Mary Poppins Festival Day in the Park where Maryborough’s glorious heritage streetscapes are transformed into scenes from the Poppins novels. Nannies race each other pushing prams in the great Nanny Challenge, chimney sweeps compete in the Chimney Sweep Dash while Mary Poppins characters come to life from the pages of books and mingle with the crowd.

Why: Not as bad as Bronies, but not good either.

2) Music For Stargazing

29th June

What: Inspired by the vast magnitude of the open outback night sky, and the traditional stories of the Bidjara people, this bespoke chamber music concert explores humankind’s long-held fascination with the cosmos. Join Kate Miller-Heidke and William Barton, as well as renowned soloists Aunty Delmae Barton, Jess Hitchcock, Keir Nuttall, Samuel Pankhurst, Véronique Serret and Vanessa Tomlinson, at the Charleville Cosmos Centre for a program inspired by landscape, stargazing, cosmology and cultural heritage.
