Why: We somehow thought the word ‘feels’ would drop off the map. We were wrong. So wrong.

What: Brisbane’s top heavy hitters are going to be gracing the Brightside stage to really show you what they’ve got to offer and to celebrate being able to mosh again! Get prepared for a night of heavy tunes, good friends, beers and most importantly THE MOSH!
Why: Restrictions are barely over. Time to mash yourself against the moistest stranger you can find.
8) SMOKE: Live

What: Succumb to ecstasy as the tendrils of SMOKE grip your brain and twist your senses with heavy 70s groove. Beware the bellows of the IRON BULLFROG, debuting their ugly sound from the beneath the mire. DAGZ bring dirt flavoured rock n roll for the price of your soul.
Why: It’s so nice when bands self-deprecate. Means we don’t have to do anything.

7) Winton’s Way Out West Fest
6th-11th April
What: Winton’s Way Out West Fest. 2021 will be a celebration of great Aussie music in the Queensland Outback. Hitmakers Sheppard, Busby Marou and Daryl Braithwaite will be joined by some of our best contemporary country music artists including Lee Kernaghan, The Wolfe Brothers, Beccy Cole, Adam Harvey and many more. They will all feature in a special 2-day concert event at the Eric Lenton Festival Grounds. The township of Winton will also present a uniquely curated program that includes music legends, songwriters, alt-country, Bush Balladeers and Americana artists. The lineup boasts multi-award-winning singer songwriter, Sara Storer, country songstress, Anne Kirkpatrick, living legend Chad Morgan and national treasure, Joy McKean whose feature film, Slim & I, will screen in the rustic Royal Open-Air Cinema.
Why: A venue where Lee Kernaghan can really shine. One far away from most people, particularly the ones whose race causes him discomfort.

6) The Unknowns, Girl & GirL, Landlords: Live

What: With their raw rock‘n’roll sound and fresh punk attitude, energetic Sunshine Coast trio THE UNKNOWNS are breathing new life into the rock scene. Since forming at school in late 2014, The Unknowns have brought their old fashioned authentic rock to numerous venues around Australia. Who’s Aunty Liss? Ask your parents, chances are she drummed them into a dance crazed trance 30 years ago in a Newtown pub. Now she’s doing it all again (second generation style) teaming up with her nephew and his friends in Gold Coast rock outfit Girl and GirL. Gold Coast punk four-piece, Landlords, are full of boystyle energy and healthy hooks. Experience these three bands in a night of killer live new music.
Why: We’d made some kind of comment about a pop punk band being the only way millennial could experience being ‘landlords’ but we’re classier than that.
5) HAUSKEY: Go Wrong
9th April
What: ‘Go Wrong’ is his first new music since Hauskey’s debut ‘Slow EP’ landed, and it’s another delicious slice of laissez-faire, sunshine-toasted slacker pop with high emphasis on the ‘pop’. It’s a breeze. A cool glass of Vimto. Just the ticket.
Why: Yep. A douche.

4) Hockey Dad: Live
11th April
What: Off the back of releasing their brand new single “Itch” and album news for Brain Candy, the duo today announce their own headline tour. Hockey Dad’s new single ‘Itch’, is out now, an epic fuzzed ballad, which started off as a delicate, droned out kind of feel. It grew in the studio as the band added more layers and has become a giant of a song that slowly builds to a massive finish with one of Zach Stephenson’s biggest vocals to date.
Why: The ‘oh, yeah, them’, of the pop rock world.

3) Torch Fest
10th April
What: Torch Fest is the inaugural, first of its kind, mental health music festival shining a light on inspirational artists and their stories. 12 local Queensland artists have been hand-picked to take to the stage over the course of the 10 hour festival including Tia Gostelow, DOOLIE, Genes, MARLOE., Ella Fence, ELEEA, Jordan Merrick, Leonie Kingdom, Hello Jane, Emma Beau, Freight Train Foxes and Kate Gill. All performers on the day will perform their Torch Song, the light that gets you through, as part of their full set and the festival will distribute battery-powered torches to each attendee to flick on when each of the Torch Songs are played throughout the day, creating a stunning visual.
Why: Nothing says ‘mental health’ like thousands of people crammed together in a field on the cusp of a global pandemic.

2) PIGSOUND
10th April
What: This year, 4ZZZ presents the first ever PIGSOUND – a day festival run by Brisbane bands, for Brisbane bands. The festival aims to shine a spotlight on new and experimental bands without the accompanying industry rigmarole. PIGSOUND debuts at Backbone featuring Olivia’s World, Dumb Things, CNT EVEN, A Country Practice, Simi Lacroix, Slowrip (debut!), Ruffled Feathers (debut!), Durwin (debut!), Louley (debut!) 4ZZZ’s very own DJ Doom (AKA Dominique Furphy) and DJ Donaldo (AKA Ian Stress).
Why: There’s a chance you might just see the next Bob Dylan. But there’s a total certainty you’ll see ‘CNT EVEN’.

1) The Rubens: Live in Life
8th April
What: The past year has seen The Rubens travel to North America, UK & Europe for headline tours, perform and release their MTV Unplugged Live In Melbourne album, slay the main stage unveiling their collaboration with punk hip-hop star Vic Mensa at Splendour In The Grass AND between all of that, bunker down to write and focus on new music. Don’t miss your chance to see Aussie alt-rockers, The Rubens, live in 2021!
