Top 10 Melbourne Culture On this week 21/03/2021
Lube your sphincter.
10) The Improvised Superhero Movie
24th March
What: Love comic books? Love movies? Come check out what happens when the two spontaneously combine in ‘Issue 1: The Improvised Superhero Movie.’ It’s like DC and Marvel studios had an illegitimate baby and it was one of those hilarious babies in a viral video clip, and not one of those boring regular ones your friends have and make you look at pictures of. This show will, through an audience suggestion, use improvisation, comic book tropes, camera angles and creatively unique characters to tell the origin story of a superhero that’s never been seen before and may never be seen again.
Why: Recognise the value of Marvel.

9) Sanitary Secrets: Exhibition Opening
26th March
What: One hundred ‘pad ads’ from 1920 to 2020 will lead you to question the role of the designer in creating a shameful or liberating world for consumers. Visual communicators have an ethical obligation to not only design the world they want but to design a world for marginalised voices. Opening night includes a discussion with Jamal Hakim and designers Amber Bonney and Reg Abos and performance from drag queen Bae L’Amour.
Why: Every lazy, offensive 90s parody of a university feminist in one handy exhibition.
8) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
21st March onwards
What: The magic has begun in Melbourne’s East End Theatre District. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a “wildly imaginative continuation of J.K. Rowling’s wizardry saga” (The Hollywood Reporter). Prepare to experience a thrilling new adventure that the Herald Sun Melbourne calls “Spellbinding – Like nothing on earth”.
Why: We haven’t read or seen it yet. Fingers crossed “the cursed child“ isn’t some reference to Rowling’s latest fun opinions concerning the transgender community.

Why: If you can imagine something more olfactorily powerful than athlete’s foot it will help.

5) XR Autumn Resistance

Why: You can’t tell us this won’t be entertaining.
