Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, their music is flavoured with guitar, double bass, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and three part harmonies plus a little desert heat-haze that could only be Australian. 7) Young Henry’s Live Lounge feat. The Wattles & Aloe Vera

What: Young Henry’s and Kelly’s on King present The Wattles and Aloe Vera. The Wattles are an Indie band from Sydney. The Wattles formed in 2020 and since have sold out shows. The band have just released a spellbinding new single, ‘Invisibility’, which captures their new sound and drive. Aloe Vera is the new project from Sydney, whose dreamy indie pop songs evoke reminiscence and nostalgia like looking into a sepia toned photograph.
Why: If you’re old enough to legitimately experience nostalgia via a sepia-toned photograph, you’re definitely dead, so this is irrelevant.

4) Sunset Piazza

What: If you had any doubts that live music and comedy are back, big time, then you need to check out Sydney’s brand new pop-up outdoor venue and concert series in the heart of the city. The Sunset Piazza is in Cathedral Square, opposite Hyde Park, bringing with it 32 nights of music and comedy under the watch of the beautiful St Mary’s Cathedral. Sunset Piazza offers the kind of night out in the city you’ve been craving. Visit a local restaurant before the show or grab a bite to eat from on-site artisan providores serving panini and antipasti. Enjoy a pre-show drink from the bar, and settle in for a selection of Sydney’s best DJs, pre-show. Some astonishing talent will be playing, across the full spectrum of genres: think Ben Lee, Alex the Astronaut, the Umbilical Brothers, Opera Australia, Lawrence Mooney, Lizzy Hoo, and JK-47. Sydney’s favourite jazz vocalist Emma Pask; classical music mavericks Ensemble Offspring; and purveyors of queer parties and good times, Heaps Gay also join the program.
Why: Get pissed, eat paninis and watch Heaps Gay in front of a church. We’re often hard on Sydney but sometimes it just pulls it off.

3) Vera Blue and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra: Live

What: Folk artist Vera Blue and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will be joining forces for their debut performance together for her “Everything is Wonderful” show. Fans will be transported to a whole new world of Vera Blue, taken on an orchestral journey through her incredible catalogue over a magical evening.
Why: Indie, but slightly less insipid; a symphony, but slightly more palatable.
2) Sydney St Patrick’s Day Festival
21st March
What: The Sydney St Patrick’s Day Festival is returning to The Rocks for a family-friendly, free event. Kicking off at 11am with a traditional smoking ceremony, festival goers can enjoy some toe-tapping live music from some of Sydney’s best-known Irish acts, world-class Irish dance performances, taste some of the best Irish food Sydney has to offer all while overlooking the iconic Sydney Opera House. Clann, Cultur agus Damhsa is the order of the day at MCA with a pop up Gaeltacht, art & craft tent and Irish dance displays throughout the day. There’ll be giant Irish hats, Irish harps and green post boxes scattered around the lawn making for the perfect photo opportunity.
Why: The one day a year when people without Irish ancestry can celebrate Irish culture without immediately indicating to everyone that they’re one half-step away from shouting “white power”!
