5) Opening Celebration for ‘OCCURRENT AFFAIR: proppaNOW’
26th February
What: Celebrate the launch of the University of Queensland Art Museum’s creative program Union with the opening of exhibitions OCCURRENT AFFAIR by the proppaNOW Collective, including Vernon Ah Kee, Tony Albert, Richard Bell, Megan Cope, Jennifer Herd, Gordon Hookey and Laurie Nilsen (guest curated by Amanda Hayman and Troy Casey, Blaklash Creative). The ‘Union’ creative program also includes The City of Ladies by Zanny Begg and Elise McLeod and DEMOS by Andreas Angelidakis. Together, these exhibitions and projects address ideas of union through the lens of common purpose, rearticulation, dissensus, and collective action.
Why: We can’t deny the product fits the brief. The common purpose of everyone at this exhibition is to be able to bring up in conversation that they went to a contemporary art exhibition.
4) Menagerie: Live
27th February
What: Menagerie is a new funk and soul collective made up of seasoned Brisbane musos. Songstress & ivory-tinkler Gracie Mack is joined by powerhouse vocalists Georgia Mackay (KAYSO GRANDE) and Melanie Galletly (Willis & the Lovely Ones) in this 6-piece female led band. With a strong focus on tight vocal harmony, Menagerie re-imagines funk classics and pens originals inspired by artists like The Meters, Hiatus Kaiyote, Jon Cleary & Moonchild.
Why: Funk is generally intolerable and they write their own stuff. The hipster credit here is off the charts.

3) Tyler Cooney Quartet
25th February
What: The Tyler Cooney Quartet is a Guitar-Saxophone Quartet that aims to create gripping and exciting music through ensemble interaction, interesting compositions, and intensity in each member’s playing. On the 25th of February, the Quartet will be playing mostly original tunes at JMI Live.
Why: Get in on this one quick before Netflix comes out with a new mini-series about some chick with access to several hundred different outfits who also happens to play the trumpet or something.

2) BrisAsia
