6) Young Henry’s Sunday Session feat. Rooted & Dole Bludga

What: Young Henry’s Sunday Session and Kelly’s on King present Rooted and Dole Bludga. Rooted are a bong-worshiping sludge/doom band from Sydney. Dole Bludga are a low tuned heavy punk band from Sydney.
Why: The most comically, aggressively Australian-sounding-thing since Steve Irwin was mounting crocodiles.

What: Slingshot x Hustle & Flow presents HIPHOPIKONZ, a party celebrating the music and visuals of some of hiphop’s most iconic artists from the Golden Era to the Future. 2 turntable technicians, DJ Diola and DJ Raine Supreme, will drop a night full of tracks.
Why: The world is suffering through a mass trauma and has only to look forward to the next one. The louder and more senseless the music, the less you’ll have to think.

3) Sunset Piazza

What: If you had any doubts that live music and comedy are back, big time, then you need to check out Sydney’s brand new pop-up outdoor venue and concert series in the heart of the city. The Sunset Piazza is in Cathedral Square, opposite Hyde Park, bringing with it 32 nights of music and comedy under the watch of the beautiful St Mary’s Cathedral. Sunset Piazza offers the kind of night out in the city you’ve been craving. Visit a local restaurant before the show or grab a bite to eat from on-site artisan providores serving panini and antipasti. Enjoy a pre-show drink from the bar, and settle in for a selection of Sydney’s best DJs, pre-show. Some astonishing talent will be playing, across the full spectrum of genres: think Ben Lee, Alex the Astronaut, the Umbilical Brothers, Opera Australia, Lawrence Mooney, Lizzy Hoo, and JK-47. Sydney’s favourite jazz vocalist Emma Pask; classical music mavericks Ensemble Offspring; and purveyors of queer parties and good times, Heaps Gay also join the program.
Why: Get pissed, eat paninis and watch Heaps Gay in front of a church. We’re often hard on Sydney but sometimes it just pulls it off.

Hailing from Sydney’s northern beaches, Scatter Light are a power trio that blend an array of 60s and 70s rock n roll influences with elements of modern psychedelia, creating their own place within the thriving Australian psychedelic renaissance. KODA is a Sydney based Rock and Roll band. Inspired by their biggest heroes including Van Halen, Violent Soho, JET, The Beatles, The Flaming Lips, Black Country Communion, Smashing Pumpkins and Queen. KODA are focused on developing their own pocket in which they will bring to life their vision of rock and roll through powerful melodies, explosive riffs and deep grooves.
Why: Australia’s psychedelic renaissance, not to be confused with Australia’s psychedelics renaissance, which is arguably far better for your mental health.
1) Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2021
21st February-7th March
What: Attended by hundreds of thousands of people annually, the Mardi Gras is one of the biggest events of the year! Mardi Gras is best known for the Pride Parade and Party, but also has a number of other fun events on this year including the Bondi Drag Races, Mardi Gras Film Festival, exhibitions, live performances, comedy acts, talks and presentations and so much more. This year, take your seats for a spectacular celebration of pride, protest, passion and diversity. This is Mardi Gras like you’ve never seen it before, in one of Sydney’s most iconic venues! It’s game on for the 43rd Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade as the Sydney Cricket Ground is being transformed into a stunning and sparkling showcase of LGBTQI+ culture and community.
Why: Mardi Gras at the SCG. We’d never have thought in the era of COVID we’d have to cause to say, ‘it’s a magical time to be alive’.
