What: Della Mae is a Grammy nominated, Nashville-based, all-female string band made up of lead vocalist/guitarist Celia Woodsmith, 2-time national champion fiddle player Kimber Ludiker, and mandolinist Jenni Lyn Gardner. Experience their unique stringed Americana twang live.

Why: Thought the US couldn’t get anymore viscerally grating? You hadn’t thought to factor in a mandolinist.

8) Didgeridoo Australia Workshop

What: Join Ganga Giri and Henning Gerlt as they introduce you to Aboriginal culture in an interactive way. This workshop will cover the origin, distribution and flag of the Aboriginal people,  bush food sources & hunting tools, and musical instruments, including didgeridoo performances.

Why: Shut your children up for an hour in a culturally sensitive manner.

What: Sixteen artists. A towering figure. All forces in their own right – these dynamic women will weave Leonard Cohen’s words around their own narratives. Why: We thought funk couldn’t get any less appealing. And then we encountered purely instrumental funk. It’s…almost impressive.

3) Virtual Painting with Anthony Walker

What: Painting as an artform universally generates emotions, conversations and evokes reflection. To our First Nations people it is these things and much, much, more. First Nations People’s history has predominately been an oral history which makes art in its various forms extremely significant and contributes to shared memories, stories and song lines which have and continue to be handed down from generation to generation. Learn about this important artform from Anthony Walker as part of NAIDOC week’s virtual painting event and create your very own work of art.

Why: It’s a vitally important exploration of indigenous culture, but it’s okay to be bored because it’s art.

What: Nikki Madgwick is a proud Worimi-Biripi woman who lives and works on beautiful Wurundjeri Country. Hear about Nikki’s connection to her culture and what NAIDOC means to her. Nikki will share stories, poems and give an insight into her creative process as a poet. There will also be a chance to ask Nikki any questions about her experience as an Aboriginal woman in modern day Australia and how we as a community can strive for reconciliation.

Why: Get your head out of the USA’s arse for an hour.
