10) The Barr Brothers: Fairfield Theatre Company

What: The Barr Brothers is an indie folk band founded in Montreal, Quebec, consisting of two American brothers Andrew and Brad Barr as well as bassist Morgan Moore, pedal steel guitarist Brett Lanier, and harpist Eveline Gregoire-Rousseau. Experience their uniquely mellifluous sound in a live broadcast of their 2011 show at the Fairfield Theatre Company.

Why: The least repulsive American ‘Barrs’ to whose narratives you’ll have to listen.

9) Bishop Briggs: The Champion Tour

What: Bishop Briggs, is an indie pop British-American songwriter. Her single “River” was a number three hit on the Alt charts. Her second album Champion dropped a solid kaleidoscope of voice-trembling ballads and foot-stomping pop singalongs.  Experience her performing Champion in a unique livestream.

Why: She’s bald. So even though she may sound as terrible as yet another generic indie pop singer with an exaggerated British accent would, associating yourself with her image will make you ten per cent cooler.

8) Pigeons Playing Ping Pong: Live at Frederick Fairgrounds

16th October

What: Funk jam band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong join FANS for a five-show couch tour, connecting their flock for some jam-filled livestreams. “We want to offer people an escape, a place where they can leave all their troubles and worries behind to embrace the joy of human connection,” says guitarist/vocalist, Greg Ormont.

Why: Turns out this is the kind of thing that the hip youth favour these days. A sense of openness and willingness to embrace all without prejudice clearly has its downsides.

7) Women Who Rock: Emily Wolfe

15th October

What: To raise awareness for vital Breast cancer research this month, Women Who Rock and Gibson Gives–the charitable arm of Gibson guitars–have teamed up for a new virtual concert series. This live broadcast will feature Emily Wolfe, a sparkling rocker with a propulsive groove and atmospheric guitars.

Why: The antithesis of ‘shrill’ made manifest.

6) Move Forward Fest

18th October

What: Breaking artists and building community. Live music and creative commentary. Move with with Move Forward Fest. A virtual live rap and hip-hop music festival to unite us all in these strange times. Why: You’re not a bad person if you don’t like rap music. You are, however, definitely a bad person if you loudly pontificate to everyone else about the importance of this virtual festival over the sounds of your earphones blasting every decade’s incarnation of The Eagles.

4) Teenage Cancer Trust Unseen: Pulp

What: Teenage Cancer Trust Unseen is an incredible archive of never-before-seen footage of live performances at the Royal Albert Hall through the years in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. This incarnation will feature weird and brilliant 80s alt pop band, Pulp, with Jarvis Cocker, Candida Doyle, Russell Senior, Mark Webber, Steve Mackey and Nick Banks as the lineup.

Why: And if you really want to go the extra mile for the youth, fight the impulse to extol the virtues of Pulp to every teenager around you.
