What: Phantoms, comprised of Los Angeles natives, Kyle Kaplan & Vinnie Pergola, are a live electronic duo that does exactly that. Often tough to box in, their style lends itself to many elements of electronic and pop music while still managing to always incorporate distinct synths and drum samples that have become synonymous with their genre of alternative electronic. Experience them live.

Why: “Distinctive synths” seems like a contradiction in terms. But then again so does “alternative electronic”. So it’s pretty much the wheelhouse through which they’re pumping their sludge.

9) Giant Rooks: Rookery Release Show

What: In 2015, singer Frederik Rabe, guitarist Finn Schwieters, bassist Luca Göttner, keyboardist Jonathan Wischniowski, and drummer Finn Thomas founded Giant Rooks. Their beats always sound like Kanyesque hip hop and the song structures even occasionally bring Bob Dylan to mind. The soundscapes are influenced by Bon Iver. The band playfully combines modern influences with classical structures and classical sounds with modern song structures. When it comes to playing music, as well as listening to it, Giant Rooks aren’t looking to fit into any one genre or emulate anyone. Experience them live.

Why: It’s all in the description. We have no idea how to construct a more withering description of a band’s canon than their self-described blend of Kanye West and Bob Dylan.

Why: She sounds like 2010. In 2020, that’s reason enough to drown yourself in her generic pop.

What: Nina Las Vegas headlines the fourth edition of United We Stream Australia. The Aussie DJ will perform live from Mangoplah, a small town of about 300 people, approximately 20 miles south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales.
