9) Black Lives Matter: Can a Leaderless Movement be a Force for Change?

29th July

What: Black Lives Matter: Can a leaderless movement be a force for change? Misinformation, distraction and fear tactics. Panellists including Althea Brown and Dr Tunde Okewale of Doughty Street Chambers, and David Lammy MP, discuss tried and tested methods grassroots organisations can use to build lasting, positive change, and the hurdles they should expect along the way. The session is open to all, and will include guests from grassroot organisations – including Bridging the Bar, Graveney Stories of Racism and Urban Synergy – to discuss this topic, and offer insights on how recommendations are formed, and the process required to secure implementation.

Why: Be morally proactive without actually having to get up and walk around.

7) Mars 2020 Perseverance Launch

30th July

What: NASA’s next mission to Mars, the Mars 2020 Perseverance mission, will send the most sophisticated rover ever to the Red Planet. After landing in February 2021, this robotic astrobiologist will address key questions about the potential for life on Mars, what the environment was like billions of years ago, and seek signs of ancient microbial life that might be preserved in the unique rocks of Jezero Crater. It will also demonstrate new technologies that pave the way for human exploration beyond the Moon. As NASA prepares for this exciting mission, they’re bringing the excitement of the launch to you.

Why: If you’re affiliated with someone who thinks money should not be wasted on space exploration, just remind them that the Wi-Fi upon which they depend for their conspiracy theories concerning British royal lizard people and lexical variants such as ‘sheeple’ would not have been possible without it. Then start licking your eyeballs and sunning your scaly back on the nearest flat rock. In times like these, self-care is paramount.

3) Judith Lucy & Denise Scott: Disappointments

2nd August

What: In 2017/18 Judith Lucy and Denise Scott toured their smash hit show ‘Disappointments’ to every capital city and regional centre in Australia selling more than 70,000 tickets. The premise of the show was that their lives were perfect but the reality was that this was bullshit and both had taken to their beds because of personal and professional setbacks. Scotty and Jude sensed that talking about their mediocre lives and shattered dreams might strike a chord with the public and they were right! People loved embracing not just the comedians’ regrets but their own! Failure had never been this much fun! Now thanks to the unravelling of the arts sector and, indeed, the planet due to COVID- 19 they feel the time is right for ‘Disappointments’, the zoom-cast. Join Scotty and Jude as they talk about NEW disappointments.

Why: Well it’s the grandma from Studio 10 and Charlie Pickering’s foil, so at least the title of the show is accurate.
