What: The legendary Cliff Richard will deliver an exclusive session of music and stories from his home in Barbados as part of the Royal Albert Home sessions. Sir Cliff Richard is indisputably Britain’s all-time greatest hit-maker – the ultimate pop star. In 60 years he has recorded almost 1,300 song titles, composed 100 songs, achieved 14 number one singles and 7 chart-topping albums.

Why: It turns out he’s not a kiddie fiddler. And yet somehow the lyrics of ‘Living Doll’ aren’t any less creepy.

8) Josh Groban Live

28th June

What: The word is out! Josh has announced a special intimate livestream concert. Joined by long-time guitarist Tariqh Akoni and piano player Mark Stephens, Josh will perform a full concert set spanning his illustrious career, including some of his greatest hits, fan favourites and a few new songs. Ticketholders will receive an access code to the live stream that’s good for 48 hours at the start of the concert.

Why: Possibly the most inoffensive Josh to ever exist. That in itself is worthy of note.

7) Serious Livestream Sessions: Julia Biel

What: Tune into another Serious Livestream session with the incredible Julia Biel. Julia Biel’s voice reveals her love of jazz harmony, fused with the influence of Talk Talk and Radiohead, and songwriters like Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Nominated for a MOBO Award, an Urban Music Award and a BBC Jazz Award, and one of the many British artists to come through the Serious Take Five talent development scheme, Julia has just released her latest solo album Black and White Vol.1 which comprises solo piano and voice versions of her original songs. She’s played major festivals in France, Germany and right across mainland Europe, and last year she opened for Bob Dylan.

Why: A J. Biel whose accolades are actually warranted.

6) Royal Albert Home: Martha Wainwright

What: Singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright will deliver an exclusive set from her home as part of the Royal Albert Home sessions. With an unmistakable voice and an arsenal of powerful songs, Martha is a beguiling performer and a refreshing force in music. She began building a buzz with her well-noted EPs prior to her successful eponymous debut LP, which was followed by her highly regarded sophomore album, I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too and the acclaimed Goodnight City. Martha is in the midst of finishing up a book and getting ready to record another full length album. Until then, she shares her latest single Wolves, featuring brother Rufus.

Why: The sibling you actually want is also on the single.

5) Royal Albert Home: Bedouin

26th June

What: LA-based singer-songwriter Azniv Korkejian, better known as Bedouine, will deliver an exclusive set from her home as part of the Royal Albert Home sessions. When you listen to Bedouine’s love songs, you will be reminded of Karen Dalton’s world-wise voice or the breathy seduction of Minnie Riperton’s vocals, the easy cool of French ye-ye singers, and the poetry of Joan Baez. Her folk is nomadic, wandering across time and space, sometimes meandering into danceable jams. Bedouine celebrated the release of her second full-length album, the beautiful Bird Songs of a Killjoy, in 2019.

Why: Yes, Joan Baez was infamous for her “danceable jams”.

4) Small Business Live

21st June

What: 2 Chainz, Brandi Carlile, T-Pain and more are joining virtual music event Small Business Live to help minority-owned small businesses. The musicians will perform on locations at various small businesses close to their hearts, with proceeds benefiting Accion Opportunity Fund.

Why: There’s clearly no more appropriate way to emphasise the importance of small minority-owned businesses than via a massive flashy event hosted by disproportionately wealthy wildly overvalued millionaire celebrities whose most recent output included something called ‘Most Expensivest Miami Vineland’.

3) The Roots Picnic

28th June

What: The Roots Picnic 2020 is partnering with Michelle Obama to try to reach eligible voters and urge them to go to cast their ballots this year. Performers include The Roots, H.E.R., Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, G Herbo and many others. The event — in its 13th year — will also feature appearances by the former first lady, Janelle Monae, Kerry Washington, Tom Hanks, and more.

Why: Featuring the only tolerable thing about Jimmy Fallon’s show.

2) All in WA

25th June

What: Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, Brandi Carlile and Macklemore are among several artists from the Seattle area who are uniting to perform a virtual COVID-19 relief concert benefitting All In WA. The event will be broadcast via Amazon Music’s Twitch channel. Dave Matthews, Ciara, Russell Wilson, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Allen Stone, Mary Lambert and the Black Tones are also slated to appear, along with actor Joel McHale. Funds raised for All In WA will be distributed to a host of organisations that support workers, families and communities who are in need and have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis throughout the state.

Why: They almost had us. And then…Macklemore.

1) Electric Blockaloo

26th-29th June

What: Electric Blockaloo is set to feature a stacked lineup of more than 300 artists including Bedouin, Jauz, Justin Martin, Nicole Moudaber, Getter, Gryffin, Tokimonsta, Walker & Royce and many more, all hosting stages built inside the game Minecraft.

Why: It turns out the young person vernacular was too easy to learn for anyone born in the previous century, so the young people have decided to move to a new reality that requires at least Windows 7 to operate.
