Continuing to push the boundaries of a traditional singer/songwriter, Tiffany Christopher is a stunning display of passion, talent and creativity. A multi-instrumentalist who engages her audience with physicality and musical virtuosity; her work ranges from folk-rock and alternative-americana to hip hop and rhythm and blues.

Why: Tiffany from Denver wants you to tune in to her livestream…and it’s not about her fun take on race relations.

9) Parlor Room Home Sessions: Sean Rowe

1st June

What: Since it’ll be a while until we can all gather again, Parlor Room is sharing the gift of music via their virtual sessions. Sean Rowe is an internationally renowned alternative folk singer-songwriter and will be performing live in an intimate virtual concert.

Why: We’ve always wondered what exactly ‘alternative’ folk music is. But the global broadcast in isolation through a platform owned by a multi-millionaire CEO of ‘folk’ music seems like a profound enough alteration to qualify for the term.

8) At Home in the Woods with Serious Child

8th June

What: Serious Child is indie folk musician Alan Young, who spent a year in the West Sussex woods writing his latest album Time In The Trees. This was released on the Spring Equinox, three days after lockdown was declared in the UK, with the album launch and accompanying tour cancelled at short notice. Since then, Serious Child has rewritten the songs for solo performance on the guitar, harmonium and ukulele, though not at the same time. His inventive live streams have been described as amiable chaos, with his last performance including a social distancing duo on either side of a window pane, and a chicken called Keith.

Why: A man has emerged from the woods…of West Sussex. A demonstration of the power of location as context. Although we can’t be positive he doesn’t have a cult of pale inbred children hidden in his woodland cabin. But we can be fairly sure, if he does, that they have providence over a vast duchy and some rollicking stories about Her Maj in her grease monkey days.

7) Virtual TRiPTease

4th June

What: To keep your week spicy, check out Virtual TRiPTease! A virtual online variety party every Wednesday hosted by the Original Dame/Producer Lola Boutée alongside TRiP’s one and only sassy pinup bartender, Shira Roman. Grab a cocktail or mocktail and tune in each week on Zoom for a hilarious late-night “happy hour” event every Wednesday featuring different cabaret segments each week and special guests!

Why: Because even though bars are tentatively open, we’re still a few months away from collectively being able to go full Minnelli all over the chairs.

6) Brandi Carlile: By the Way, I Forgive You (Live)

2nd June

What: Brandi Carlile will perform the entirety of her album By the Way, I Forgive You to benefit her band and crew members. It will be the first in an ongoing series of album performances.

Why: We can think of no one more deserving, at this historic point in time, of your donation than multi-millionaire Brandi with an ‘i’ from Washington and her merry band.

5) Freetown Collective

5th June

What: The genre-bending six-piece band from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, Freetown Collective, will be hosting this online concert which will also feature guest musicians and spoken word poets. Undergirded by a philosophy and belief that all persons are worthy of love and dignity, the music of Freetown Collective often seeks to explore themes related to what it means to be human. Mixed up in their living sound you will hear hip hop, soca, blues, trap, the 80’s…but more than anything, you will hear their hearts. Dive into their galaxy of harmony and melody, music and philosophy, good vibes and, over everything else, love.

Why: Truly not the context in which we’d’ve thought the word ‘undergirded’ would appear.

4) Royal Albert Home: Kaiser Chiefs

31st May

What: Indie heroes Kaiser Chiefs will deliver an exclusive set as part of the Royal Albert Home sessions. The Leeds band have had a string of anthemic hits such as Oh My God, I Predict A Riot, Everyday I Love You Less and Less, Never Miss A Beat and Hole In My Soul. The band have released seven original studio albums which includes their Mercury nominated debut, Employment, its number 1 follow up, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, chart-topping Education, Education, Education, and War and their most recent acclaimed album, Duck.

Why: The adaptation for quarantine is now playing.

3) Michael Borja (Live)

7th June

What: If you don’t know Michael Borja, he’s a musician and member of the band Louden Swain. This is the Borja Five-0 show. He’ll share some stories, answer a few questions and play some original tunes, covers, and some original covers. He couldn’t decide whether he’d play just piano or guitar or pan flute. So, it’s a good chance you may see all three or more.

Why: Spice up your McHipster with a limited edition pan flute.

2) Royal Albert Home: Tim Burgess

5th June

What: Tim Burgess will deliver an exclusive set from his home as part of the Royal Albert Home sessions. Tim has toured the world as frontman of The Charlatans, who have performed at the Hall twice, including an emotional tribute concert for their late drummer Jon Brookes in 2013. He releases his fifth solo album, I Love The New Sky, in May 2020 on Bella Union.

Why: He looks and sounds exactly how you’d assume he looks and sounds.
