True Altruism with the Cinco de Mayo Altísimo Live Festival
We are all terrible people. It’s a fact that has been intermittently revived throughout history, but cemented in the collective consciousness around the 90s when it was widely acceptable to consider Hanson, a tow-haired band of underage Nazi wet dreams, ‘hot’.
We are self-serving, gluttonous monsters, whose capacity for object permanence is dependent upon whether or not we’re in the company of someone we want to impress and whether or not the homeless person we’re walking past has written a clever enough pun on their sign to deserve that Kiwi Dollar.
But luckily for the world, there is one class of society who is genuinely good. A class immune to the evils of temptation and the trappings of selfishness. Celebrities. And they have, once again, come to rescue all of our souls with the Cinco de Mayo Altísimo Live Festival.
Yes, Latin music stars Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Luis Fonsi, J Balvin, Diane Guerrero and Ana Brenda Contreras have teamed up for Eva Longoria’s virtual Cinco de Mayo celebration, hosted by iHeartLatino, RetroPop Media, CIEN+, The Latinx House, WFHN-TV, Hispanics in Philanthropy, Hispanic Heritage Foundation and farmworker-serving organisations led by Justice for Migrant Women, among others.
In support of the millions of farmworkers across the U.S. who help feed the country, the Altísimo Live Festival benefit concert will raise necessary money for their COVID-19 relief fund with live musical performances and interactive Q&As. Additional stars taking part in the benefit include Becky G, Edward James Olmos, Jenny Yang, Juanes, Nicky Jam, Rosanna Arquette and Steve Aoki.
You have been a very, very bad person. Spending your wealth on rent, food, electricity and loan sharks. You bought new underwear not two years ago, and you’re already buying another whole pair.
So while you’re using that extra pair of luxurious Target cotton undies to dab all that breakfast avocado off your face, thank your lucky stars for those multi-millionaire celebrities who are selfless enough to host a massive conga-themed tax write-off for the good of all of humanity.
