10) BOADICEA: A Celtic Cabaret
28th February
What: An opera depicting the life and times of Boadicea, the Celtic British Warrior Queen, who in 60 AD led an uprising against the Romans. Written by Judy Stevens and Clarry Evans, directed by Denny Lawrence.
Why: Because what the world really needs right now is a reminder of Britain’s fetishistic adoration of nationalistic folk heroes.
9) BrisAsia Festival
23rd-29th February
What: With an incredible line-up of dance, arts, food, film, music and more showcasing and celebrating the city’s vibrant and diverse Asian cultures, BrisAsia Festival is one of Brisbane’s best things to see and do in 2020! Treat yourself to more than 90 individual events happening across the city and suburbs as part of the festival.
Why: If you find your mind slipping, just look to your left, there’ll be something loud, colourful and distracting enough to squash that apocalyptic mass infection-induced graveyard image that tried to worm itself into your brain.

Why: You know that nightmare when you’re assaulted on the street on the way to work by a band of contemporary dancers who won’t let you leave until they finish their endless gyrating adaptation of an obscure piece of literature as set in the year 4000? This is like that but you never wake up.

7) Brisbane Backyard Film Festival

What: The Brisbane Backyard Film Festival is a celebration of local screen content. This annual event showcases the best short films, music videos and movie trailers from around Queensland. So bring your rug, grab a beer, fill-up on delicious snacks from local food trucks and settle in for a night of backyard entertainment like you’ve never seen before.
Why: A backyard and non-sponsored creative content. Two things we have about 6 months left to experience before they’re extinct.
6) Polaris ‘The Death of Me’ Tour
29th February
What: Sydney metalcore outfit Polaris announce the details of their highly anticipated second studio album, The Death Of Me, out February 21, 2020, via Resist Records and their biggest headliner to date, The Death Of Me Australian Tour supported by Wage War, Crystal Lake and Alpha Wolf. In the two years since The Mortal Coil, Polaris embarked on three sold-out headlining tours of Australia, as well as supporting Architects and Parkway Drive around the country; five runs throughout Europe (including a series of arena shows supporting Architects and a slew of high-profile summer festival spots); three separate US tours; not to mention performing at the Download Festival and Unify Gathering in Australia. Somewhere in there, the quintet found time to write The Death Of Me.

4) Red Hot Summer Tour 2020 feat. Hunters & Collectors, James Reyne, The Living End, The Angels, Baby Animals, Killing Heidi and Boom Crash Opera

What: The Red Hot Summer Tour celebrates 10 years of Red Hot Rock in 2020 and in true style, organisers have put together an incredible all Australian line-up for a massive series of dates. In an incredible coup for music-fans, ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Hunters & Collectors are reuniting to headline the 2020 tour, bringing with them special guests James Reyne, The Living End, The Angels, Baby Animals, Killing Heidi and Boom Crash Opera.
Why: A lineup of rockers so hardcore they haven’t as of yet cancelled due to fears concerning air quality.
3) MIKA ‘Revelation’ Tour
24th February
What: Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce a February 2020 tour for international pop sensation MIKA, returning to Australia for the first time in 11 years and performing in New Zealand for the very first time. MIKA will headline four shows as part of his Revelation Tour in the wake of his fifth album My Name Is Michael Holbrook, described by Billboard as “his boldest record yet”. The result of two years of songwriting in Miami and Tuscany, MIKA’s fifth and latest studio album My Name Is Michael Holbrook was recorded using vintage synths in Brussels with producers Marc Crew and Dan Priddy. The entire album features organic soundscapes which speak to various decades of pop and represent MIKA’s journey of self discovery. Tracks of note from this album include ‘Ice Cream’, ‘Tiny Love’, ‘Cry’ and ‘Platform Ballerina’, with MIKA’s “frankly empowering lyrics” [Gigwise], with respect to the beauty standards forced upon women.

2) Scorpions & Whitesnake 2020 Tour
24th February
What: Get ready for the biggest hard rock tour of the year! German icons Scorpions return to Australia in 2020 with Whitesnake, the legendary rock’n’roll band founded and formed by former Deep Purple singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Coverdale. Global hits like the over 15 million selling ballad ‘Wind of Change’ and ‘Send Me An Angel’ from Scorpions’ ‘Crazy World’ album have made Scorpions Continental Europe’s most successful band with a history spanning more than 50 years. Mega platinum Whitesnake, the legendary rock ’n’ roll band founded and formed by Deep Purple singer and Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer David Coverdale are proud to announce the continuation of the 2019 “Flesh & Blood” World Tour into 2020. Following the global success of the “Flesh & Blood” album Whitesnake has played 55 shows in 24 countries to over 600,000 fans in 2019.

1) Brisbane Comedy Festival
23rd February-22nd March
What: Australia’s fastest growing comedy festival, Brisbane Comedy Festival has grown into a multi-venue extravaganza, bursting at the seams to host a hand-picked selection of the funniest folk in the country. It’s year 11 for the Brisbane Comedy Festival, featuring a bumper line-up of 85 acts playing in 14 performance spaces across 5 venues. The month-long fun and frivolity begins with the Opening Gala. The festival will of course shine a spotlight on top Queensland talent including Mel Buttle, Steph Tisdell, Becky Lucas and Matt Okine, local collectives Act/React, Brisburned, and Politics In The Pub as well as Agro with Jamie Dunn. National heavyweights Dave Hughes, Peter Helliar, Fiona O’Loughlin, Nazeem Hussain and Frank Woodley will be along for the ride, as will international acts such as Stephen K Amos, Jonathan Pie, and Jimeoin. Queerstories and Livewired return in 2020 as well.
Why: We’ve been laughing at death since the war went cold. It’s time for a change in stimuli.
