Top 10 Sydney Revelry On this week 16/02/2020
Electrify yourself. Fried neural tissue makes EDM far more tolerable.
10) The Disco Affair feat. Beth Yen and Supermini
22nd February
What: A disco collaboration between some of Sydney’s premiere music brands for a night of groovy ecstasy. It’s a Disco Affair. Hot Sunday Records, Disco Fiasco Records, Sunset Soulection and Electric Boogie have come together with some of Sydney’s most recognised disco selectors for a takeover at The Flinders. Featuring: Beth Yen, Supermini, Buried King, Big in Japan, Hot English Mustard DJ, Latour and Kellit.
Why: The name is apt. The world’s relationship with disco is exactly like an affair. Hot, sweaty, shameful and pops up every five years or so when a particularly depressing thing happens and nostalgia clouds your brain to the extent that you think, “Screw everything, I look good. I gotta wrap those sequinned pants around my arse one more time”.
9) Up For It!
22nd February
What: The Promoters of UP FOR IT! Sydney’s legendary classics and anthems nights (circa 1996 – 1999) invite you to a celebration of house music from 1988 to the present times. DJ’s playing vinyl and/or digital sets: Robin Burrowes (US), Dave Kirkpatrick, Nick Law, Dr Dent, & Sharyn Brand.
Why: Nothing says ‘progress’ like hearing 32 years worth of ‘UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ’. Though there is one thing that’s changed since the 80s. The cost of a vinyl record has somehow skyrocketed.

7) Butch/Stud
21st February
What: Butch/Stud is a celebration of butch culture and self-expression through style, performance, dance and community connection. Prepare for an evening of drag kings, diesel dyke poets, comedy, dance and all kinds of butches and butch-loving performers. Come dapper, leather-clad, macho, suited, gowned, tomboy or plain ol’ dirty. Just come ready to have a good time and celebrate Mardi Gras with your people.
Why: Proving once and for all the horror of live poetry knows no prejudice.

6) Pendulum Trinity
21st February
What: The biggest selling Australian drum and bass act of all time. See the three Australian founding members, Rob Swire (Anscenic), Gareth McGrillen (Speed) and Paul Harding (El Hornet) perform together in Sydney for the first time in over a decade. The guys will be testing out brand new music in an exclusive club setting.
Why: We’re celebrating the ten year reunion of a drum and bass act. Perhaps the furore directed towards youth culture when they attempt to take ownership of bands from the 70s is unwarranted. If this is the nostalgia that current 30-year-olds have access to, imagine the hollow gaping void every younger generation is facing.

5) Green Haus
22nd February
What: Welcome to the first ever Green Haus. It’s basically your standard Sydney inner west warehouse party – some wild bands, DJs and solo acts along with a vegan sausage sizzle, but the place is full of plants. So everywhere there is not a plant, there will be jiving, skyvin’, delightin’, high ridin’ human beings. One of them should be you. Profits will be going to a WIRES and the Red Cross Bushfire appeal. Lineup: Majun Bu, Kyoshi, Hibiscus Biscuit, Lochie Earl, Era Sol, Cosy Bosom, Before The King, Pharmercy, Orion and Chelsea Warner.
Why: In ten or so years, this will be the most authentic experience we have of genuine natural wilderness. Better get attuned to the calls of the EDM bro now.

The official theme for this year’s festival is ‘What Matters’, encouraging party-goers to reflect on and examine not only how far members of the Australian LGBTIQ+ community have come, but how much further we have to go. From ground-breaking queer artists to trailblazing thought leaders, Mardi Gras 2020 is an opportunity to visit the next destinations on our journey of diversity, inclusion and social justice.

What:
Bringing together the breathtaking views of the Sydney Harbour skyline at dusk with the sounds of another all-ages live music line-up, the Twilight at Taronga Summer Concert Series is back once again! The Twilight at Taronga line-up has all the makings to deliver another standout season of Sydney summer memories as artists making their Twilight debut like Broods, Wolfmother, Pete Murray, The Australian Rock Collective, Sunnyboys, Paul Kelly in Thirteen Ways To Look At Birds, Mavis Staples and Meg Mac, perform alongside returning favourites Bernard Fanning, Kasey Chambers, James Morrison, Bjorn Again and the Comedy Gala, within Taronga Zoo’s intimate natural amphitheatre.
Why: There could be nothing more calming to the psychology of a wild animal whose hearing is many times more powerful than a human’s than a brass band and some hard rockers screaming for three straight hours.

Why: If only the mythic Garden of Eden had contained this much MDMA, Cain and Abel might have been a lot more chill about everything and the story wouldn’t have included fratricide.
