10) Open-Air Warehouse Day Party feat. Undercatt

What: Saturday sees in-demand electronic music Italian duo Undercatt perform at The Third Day, North of Melbourne, at an open-air warehouse. 2014 marked the year Undercatt released their single on Solomun’s label Diynamic featuring their singular take on modern techno, filled with melodic and emotional elements. Since then, Undercatt have released on the worlds best labels, including Sasha’s Last Night on Earth, Anjunadeep, KNM, Fayer, Central Station Records, Astralwerks, FFRR and their most recent label release with NOTTURNA.
Why: A product so generic it would be entirely unnoteworthy were it not presented in an open-air warehouse. Like a craft beer. Or a newly wed couple. Or a sweatshop.
9) Opiuo 2020 Tour
14th February
What: Straight from the headline stages of the world’s biggest festivals, New Zealand’s most exciting electronic act Opiuo and France’s own enigmatic export CloZee are set to bring the desert dust, sunrise energy and thundering basslines. These one-night-only events lead by a globally renowned collection of producers, DJs, curators and selectors become an unmissable celebration of bass culture in Australia’s electronic music capitals.

What: This February, Something Unlimited reignites the thrusters of the technicoloured dream machine for its second journey into the sun. This 2020 instalment is a fuzzy haze of visual art, music and food that wanders deep into the corridors of your mind. Featuring Adriana, Big Yawn, Cable Ties, EXEK, Gordon Koang, Jazz, Jennifer Loveless, Lakuti (GER), Mount Liberation Unlimited (SWE), Mr. Teenage, NO ZU, Psychemagik (UK), Simona Castricum, Tama Sumo (GER) and Tiana Khasi.
Why: The superior of the two thrusters of the dream machine since we found out about Jimmy Savile.

4) As It Is (Live)
15th February
What: After 18-months of global touring in support of their acclaimed third album “The Great Depression”, English pop punk band As It Is have announced they will be returning to Australia. With their third album, As it Is continue to use music to better understand who we are as humans and the ability to feel powerfully less alone. “This record started off life as an exploration of the question ‘Do we as a society have a fetish for mental illness?’” offers front man Patty Walters; “Do we romanticise or glorify a sickness? It was important for me to do some soul-searching around that question. Are we part of a scene that actually does more damage than good in terms of the way we talk about these issues?”.

3) St Kilda Festival
9th February
What: St Kilda Festival is a free celebration of community spirit, Australian music and the beautiful St Kilda foreshore. Head along with 400,000 other punters to experience some eclectic live music, dance performances, workshops, carnival rides, food and market stalls, roving entertainment and heaps more. Leading the charge this year is longstanding Melbourne band Cash Savage and the Last Drinks plus the soulful Kylie Auldist and rock-heavy Stonefield. Punters will also get the chance to party with Busby Marou, the Black Sorrows, the Kite String Tangle, Yergurl, Icehouse, Horns of Leroy (feat. Thando) and Hot Dub Time Machine.
Why: Note the festival itself is the free element. If you want to celebrate this community’s spirit, you’ll need at least twenty bucks. Heroin doesn’t grow on trees. It grows on flowers and it’s bloody difficult to synthesise.

2) Juniperlooza
15th & 16th February
What: Juniperlooza 2020 will showcase 23 Australian and international gin producers, who’ll be serving up classic and twisted G&Ts plus their Juniperlooza signature cocktail. Party with your crew as Juniperlooza takes over The Boatbuilders Yard and the Polly Woodside sailing ship in South Wharf. Two Australian DJs known for getting the party started, Agent 86 (Saturday) and J’nett (Sunday) will be featured plus an electric line-up of other house favourites. Be sure to make the most of Talk & Taste sessions with producers to brush up on your gin knowledge.
Why: Feel the liquid that decimated a generation helpfully decimate that portion of your brain that reacts appropriately to house music.

1) Alice Cooper ‘Ol’ Black Eyes Is Back’ Tour
14th February
What: School’s out for Summer! Iconic shock rocker and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer Alice Cooper is returning to Australia with his all-new “Ol’ Black Eyes Is Back” show. With a revamped setlist and a new outlandish stage show, Australian fans are in for a real treat when he takes to stages across Australia. Special guests will be Aussie rock stalwarts Airbourne along with MC50, featuring Wayne Kramer of the legendary MC5 with an all-star band.
Why: He wants to kiss you but he wants it too much. And he’s 72 years old.

Riverboats Music Festival
14th-16th February
What: Staged in the twin-towns of Echuca-Moama, Riverboats takes place under towering river red gums in a natural amphitheatre next to the mighty Murray. Historic paddlesteamers meander past all weekend, and occasionally the corellas get a bit raucous at sunset. One stage and plenty of room for dancing, brilliant artists and some of the best food trucks going round. This year’s lineup features Bernard Fanning, Kate Miller-Heidke, Something For Kate, Troy Casser-Daley, Archie Roach, Dyson Stringer Cloher, Robert Forster, Bob Evans, Mama Kin Spender, Ainslie Wills, Horns of Leroy feat. Thando, Matt Joe Gow, Jess Locke and MC Brian Nankervis.
Why: A lineup so marketably indie, they’ve nestled in a venue demonstrably just off the main stream.
