10) A Doof For The Bush

What: The Flinders is hosting a massive House party to raise much needed funds for the Rural Fire Service (RFS), with 50% from the event being donated to help those on the front lines of this national tragedy. Featuring: Alfie Stratton, Dom Wunsch, Daniel Stacks + James Fantham, Jackson Nicholls-Hunt + Dan Waters, Loch Francis + Bobby Miller, Remy Bertini and Will Farheart.
Why: They’ve found a way to raise funds for the bushfire crisis that’s almost as reprehensible as a billionaire’s tax dodge. Rave music.

9) Blueprint presents Australia Day Beach Side
26th January
What: Rainbow Serpent festival is off, so Blueprint decided it would be nice to bring some Rainbow vibes to Sydney and they have secured a sick venue right on Manly beach! They will be adding in some serious sound and lighting effects to make this one of the best Australia days ever with 12 hours of rave split across two levels, featuring an epic line up! Featuring: Market Memories, Marcotix, Robbie Lowe, Lili Joy, Ben Nott, Shane SOS, Garth Linton, Jimmy Galvin, NACH, Rory Ververs and Andrew James.
Why: To be clear, the “sick venue” does not refer to the small cove full of starving heroin addicts on Manly Beach. This event is about grinding on strangers and dancing your troubles away! Complex moral issues can’t exist in a turnt world!
8) Collide Fest
31st January
What: Synestia Management & National Raw Kollective presents Collide Fest 2020, a collision of the finest new alternative bands & EDM Artists.
Why: They’ve been reticent about the details of this event, which could either mean that there’s some really brilliant talent on the bill, or someone’s getting their organs stolen. Considering the current standard of new music, we’d take the risk.

7) Do Not Sleep Ibiza
1st February
What: Ibiza collective “Do Not Sleep” jets into Sydney for one night only at the iconic Greenwood for an open air sunset party that is not to be missed. Headlined by Space Ibiza resident Darius Syrossian, supported by Defected’s Josh Butler, Sidney Charles and Spektrum resident Parker, Do Not Sleep is every house and techno music lover’s one way ticket to the white sands of the Balearic island we all know and love, right here in Sydney’s North. Spektrum is pledging to donate all of the profits made for Do Not Sleep Ibiza, to the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Why: Interesting. We assumed ‘do not sleep Ibiza’ referred to the string of tourist deaths in Ibiza caused by consumption of island moonshine.

6) Sounds Like Summer

What: A beachside soirée like no other, set upon one of the worlds most picturesque and famed backdrops, the Sydney Harbour. The sun shines brighter at this beachside playground, where good times spill down to the waterfront and days are filled with tastes, laughter, drinks, music & friends. With the harbour spread out before you and a drink in hand, the sound of international and local house artists will set the scene from day through to night, for what will be one memorable Summer affair! Why: When the beat drops, the recorded sound of tens of thousands of koalas screaming whilst being burned alive will really amp up the sick tension release, bro, and it’ll really sound like summer.

5) Sydney Lunar Festival
25th January-9th February
What: Celebrate Lunar New Year in spectacular style in Sydney. 2020 is the Year of the Rat. The rat is the first sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle, so 2020 can be considered a year of new beginnings and renewals. Haymarket is the centre of Sydney’s Lunar New Year celebrations. The street party kicks off with live entertainment, roving performers, golden rat robots, games, lion dancers, markets and food trucks. At the nearby Chinese Garden in Darling Harbour there will be a special Twilight Garden Party. The fun continues in the garden for 16 days with calligraphy and lantern decorating workshops, meditation sessions, traditional tea ceremonies, musical performances and a closing ceremony with a 15-metre dragon. Don’t miss the exciting dragon boat races on Cockle Bay! At Circular Quay, 12 huge lunar lanterns representing the animals of the zodiac will be on display. There will also be parades of bright LED lions and dragons on every weekend. Also, head over to the lantern-strewn Lunar New Year markets at The Rocks to pick up gifts, jewellery, art and food.
Why: Living almost vampirically under the light of the moon is a wonderful way to remove those troubling thoughts of the burgeoning environmental apocalypse. If you don’t see the raging sun blanketed by diseased-looking smoke clouds, you can still cram a whole cow leg down your throat for breakfast with the air-con cranked up to ‘Greenland’ without feeling at all guilty.

4) Fatboy Slim Live Tour

What: More than your average DJ set, Fatboy Slim’s sets take things to a whole new level. Iconic singles like ‘Praise You’ and ‘Weapon Of Choice’ make an obvious appearance, but it is the attention to detail in his carefully designed visuals that elevate an already stellar performance to an almost religious experience, meticulously programmed to sync up with whatever is played in the moment and transcend the gap between live music and visual accompaniments.

3) Solange ‘Witness!’ Tour
30th & 31st January
What: Universally adored artist and R&B icon, Solange returns to the Concert Hall for the exclusive Australian premiere of Witness! Composed and directed by Solange, and only the second time ever performed in the world, this is an R&B performance like no other. 2) Billy Idol 2020 Tour

What: Billy Idol needs little introduction to fans. Frontier Touring are thrilled to welcome back the inimitable punk superstar and Grammy nominee for a series of special headline shows in January/February 2020 – Idol’s first tour of Australia since 2015! Idol will be bringing his full band back down under, including his long-time collaborator and legendary lead-guitarist Steve Stevens.
Why: He has nothing to prove. Which is why he’s on tour again at the age of 64.

The Twilight at Taronga line-up has all the makings to deliver another standout season of Sydney summer memories as artists making their Twilight debut like Broods, Wolfmother, Pete Murray, The Australian Rock Collective, Sunnyboys, Paul Kelly in Thirteen Ways To Look At Birds, Mavis Staples and Meg Mac, perform alongside returning favourites Bernard Fanning, Kasey Chambers, James Morrison, Bjorn Again and the Comedy Gala, within Taronga Zoo’s intimate natural amphitheatre.
Why: There could be nothing more calming to the psychology of a wild animal whose hearing is many times more powerful than a human than a band of hard rockers screaming for three straight hours.
