What: Bushwacka! In many guises he has been around since 1988 and is still loving the life he lives and doing what he does best, a percussionist in the London School Symphony Orchestra who was converted into a member of the infamous Rat Pack after a warehouse party in ’88, has been DJing for over 30 years now. Fast forward to 2019, and Bushwacka! has been releasing massive tracks – starting with his classic track The Healer, with remixes from himself, Carl Cox, Sasha, M.A.N.D.Y and Denney – and just released a second banging single on Ultra Records – Get Up, with remix from Mason Manyard. Bushwacka! is currently remixing for Archie Hamilton, Bedrock Records, Richy Achmed, and writing new music for Eats Everything. Experience him live.
Why: A man in his 40s still spinning techno in a club full of 20-year-olds is clearly emotionally very healthy. Come see him be entirely normal.

3) Surfers Paradise Carnival
27th December-1st January
What: The annual Surfers Paradise Carnival will explode to life on Friday, starting a week of nonstop action. Along with two spectacular fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve, you will be able to enjoy an array of attractions and rides each day of the Carnival, including crowd favourites such as the Cup and Saucer and gravity-defying Pirate Ship. On New Year’s Eve, an 8pm fireworks show will allow young families to see fireworks earlier in the evening, a DJ will keep the crowds entertained until the traditional midnight countdown culminates in a 10-minute firework display.
Why: We’re unsure as to whether this will result in a higher or lower concentration of meth heads, but it’ll be interesting to find out.

1) Woodford Folk Festival
27th December-1st January
What: The Woodford Folk Festival is held annually over six days and six nights. More than 2,000 local, national and international, artists, musicians and presenters put on over 438 acts to an audience of an estimated 132,000 people. This year will be the 34th Woodford Folk Festival and the 25th held at Woodfordia. It is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia. The festival programme features concerts, dances, street theatre, writers’ panels, film festival, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, social dialogue and debate, folk medicine, an entire children’s festival, an environmental programme featuring talks, debates and films, art and craft workshops, circus performances and workshops, late night cabarets, parades and special events including the spectacular fire event. The festival streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, stalls, bars, street theatre and parades. Tree-filled campgrounds, butterfly walks, ponds and wildlife complete the picturesque site. The festival appeals to a diverse audience with all ages and many nationalities attracted each year. It’s a magical experience, and one not to be missed.
Why: Everything you could possibly want in a festival including actual woods in which to abandon the little walking talking financial black holes you call your children.
