10) Live Performance: Antihero
14th December
What: The presentation of artist Madison Bycroft’s live performance work, Antihero. In the development of the Antihero, Bycroft has borrowed, critiqued and subverted the traditional format of the ‘epic’; a narrative genre that follows a hero who leaves home, overcomes conflict and ‘finds himself’. In its stead, this performance follows a brilliantly crafted, at times absurdist, narrative of an identity unravelling.
Why: Thought the days of watching terrible interpretive plays ended when you left university and decided never to have children? You thought wrong.

9) Jamsheed Summer Wine Release Party
8th December
What: Celebrate the launch of Jamsheeds new Summer Release wines. Winemaker Gary Mills will be in the house pouring his new wines along with some oldies. All wines will be available to taste and on by the glass, along with discounts on retail bottles to take away in time for the festive season.
Why: The most fun you can have with a non-cartoon Gary.
8) Summer Vegan Degustation Buffet
11th December
What: Enjoy an array of 12 vegan Italian recipes with matched vegan-organic wine.
Why: Enjoy that array again 12 hours later when it runs out of your colon faster than you’ve ever run from a conversation about ethically-sourced bean sprouts.

7) Carols by Daylight by Friend In Me
14th December
What: Friend In Me will be hosting the inaugural Carols by Daylight at the iconic Melbourne Museum. Come along for some Christmas cheer and dance along to the amazing Bethany Fisher, Damo Music with kids and the North Melbourne children’s choir and Auslan choir just to name a few!
Why: Makes sense to inaugurate a daylight carols session. After all, carols by candlelight in this climate is essentially a giant fleshly pile of singing kindling.
6) Art Thy Neighbour Magazine: Launch Party
13th December
What: ‘Art Thy Neighbour’ is a new digital magazine that features both professional and emerging Melbourne-based artists, telling each story with deep, thoughtful interviews. And you’re invited to their launch party! Help celebrate the local talent in Brunswick Street Gallery’s current exhibition with a few drinks, great company and a live interview with a local artist (to be confirmed!). You’ll be greeted with a free glass of Autonomy Distillers’ Native Australian Amaro on arrival.
Why: Drink to the proliferation of the Melbourne hipster scene. Then, as the night wears on, drink because of it.
5) SLURP Sessions: The New Standard x Ramen Electra
10th December
What: The New Standard x Ramen Electra will be taking over The Queensberry Pour House for one night to host a Japanese inspired ramen dining experience. This event will feature Kurtis Tupangaia and Steven Chan as hosts for the evening alongside chefs Sean Henley and Calvin Ko slinging bowls of ramen. RAMEN ELECTRA is a pop-up ramen shop conceptualised by Sean Henley. Dishing up hot bowls of noodles and broth has been a long-time dream of Sean’s, and after many hours of tasting and testing, this will be the first iteration of Ramen Electra in the flesh.
Why: You’re an adult now. Legitimise your growth by multiplying the price of your hot noodle water by twenty.
4) The Pretty Weird Tour
13th December
What: What do you get when you cross an odd ball from Colorado with a beautiful dancing queen from Vietnam? Yvie Oddly and Plastique Tiara will be teaming up to give you a show unlike any other, it’s gonna get PRETTY WEIRD. Plastique is the most recent addition to the Haus of Edwards and she’s coming to twirl, kick and hair flip the way only an Edwards can! She may not have snatched the crown, but sometimes a sparkly tiara is all you need. Yvie has been telling us how it is all season, whether people like it or not. You better get used to it, because she’s on her way to come and spill the T and lip sync the house down!
Why: Werk, slay, yas queen. You know a section of humanity is a brilliant one when its parlance contains multiple iterations of a positive affirmation as opposed to multiple iterations of an offensive racial epithet.

3) Prosecco Festival Launch
9th December
What: Love Prosecco? Can’t wait til next February for The Prosecco Festival? On Monday they’re throwing a little Prosecco party at Fatto Bar and Cantina, featuring Prosecco by festival sponsors Tenuta 2 Castelli and Dal Zotto Wines. Tenuta 2 Castelli will also launch their brand new ROSAT sparkling Rose on the night, because who doesn’t love pink bubbles? Enjoy the original Venetian Spritz on arrival by Select Aperitivo thanks to Festival supporters Alepat Taylor. Sip and swirl your way through a range of different Proseccos whilst snacking on delicious cheese and salami platters.
Why: We’re willing to skate over most any addiction under the guise of a “whisky flight” or “craft beer appreciation”, but if you can’t wait for a Prosecco festival, you have a problem.

2) Serotonin French White Pop-Up Picnic X

What: Grab your partners, girlfriends and family and come down to the beautiful adjacent park from Serotonin to enjoy! Their new menu is launching and they want you to be the first to taste it! Serotonin is launching Summer with a picnic in their park with the beautiful team from @honourwithfetepopuppicnics. This gathering of like-minded happies (highly motivated and optimistic individuals) will be where you can talk all things health and wellness whilst nourishing your bodies with some amazing food! Is there a better combination?
Why: Well, we can think of a couple of better combinations. Loneliness and gin. Honey body butter and an adjacent beehive.
1) African Music & Cultural Festival
14th December
What: AMCF is the largest African festival in Australia celebrating the rich customs and culture of the hottest continent on earth. With 12 hours of free non-stop entertainment, from live music to dance, fashion, market stalls, DJs and drumming, it’s a fantastic day out for the whole family! Of course, it’s not a festival without food, so expect traditional street food from Egypt to Ethiopia, Ghana to Nigeria: think injera and curry, plus delicious sweet treats. Whether you love the vibrant music, tasty food or iconic drumming, the festival has something for everyone!
Why: That’s right. It’s that special time of year again to remember that Africa is not a country, it’s a continent.
