9) Novel x Other People present The Martinez Brothers

8th November

What: The Martinez Brothers, an American DJ duo, are two of the most recognisable global stars in house, techno, and club culture. Introduced to disco and house by their father from a young age, they come from the roots of New York’s legacy club, The Paradise Garage. While producing a plethora of music, they also run their own music label, Cuttin’ Headz and Tuskegee with Seth Troxler. Since first hitting the road at ages 15 and 17, they have gone on to sell out some of the world’s largest venues, performing regularly in hotspots like Ibiza—quickly rising to become leaders within dance music’s new guard.

Why: Ah. So dance music has a changing of the guard. Like the monarchy. Expensive, cartoonish, pointless, unpleasant to look at…exactly like the monarchy.

The Shack will be hosted by the heavyweight blend corp crew to take care of your jungle and DnB needs with Emelyne, Tamen, Mamacita Bonnita & Bevin Campbell.

Why: Puts our drunken weekend trips to Reptile World into an interesting perspective.

What: The outdoor Living Room has expanded. With more artists, more couches and more comforts of home, they are excited to host you like-minded party enthusiasts. The Timber Yard will be transformed this November, complete with state of the art production, Funktion-One sound and hand selected food and market stalls.

Why: Have you ever looked at your living room and wished it was filled with sweaty, drunken puking ravers? Then you’ve reached a level of intense loneliness from which it is impossible to return to sanity.

5) Hermitude 2019 Tour

7th November

What: Sounding completely fresh and new, and yet irresistibly familiar all at the same time, Hermitude’s new single ‘Northern Lights’ will lure you in with its light beginnings, before pulling you under with its earth-shattering drops. Sonically reminiscent of their mammoth single, ‘The Buzz’, which saw the Blue Mountains duo rise to International success, ‘Northern Lights’ signifies their most bright and brash release thus far.

Why: Unfamiliar with their canon? Imagine a robot capable of experiencing pain on fire.

4) Ali Barter Album Tour

8th November

What: Two years on from her blistering debut A Suitable Girl, Ali Barter has announced her triumphant return with Hello, I’m Doing My Best – a revealing collection of songs that track her most formative relationships: to her body, her instincts, sobriety and the old vices it counteracts, and the people she loves most. Since winning the triple j Unearthed competition and releasing her debut album A Suitable Girl in 2017, the former choir girl has enjoyed support at home from triple j, FBi Radio, The Australian, Rolling Stone and Tone Deaf, while further afield, Beats 1, Clash and The 405 have all thrown support behind the unconventional pop star.

Why: White, cutesy, described as ‘retro’. Really unconventional for 2019. In all seriousness, it is extremely troubling that someone simply saying that “women aren’t watered-down versions of men” is considered unconventional in 2019.

3) The Models (Live)

3rd November

What: Models are a Melbourne institution. After the success of last year’s 40th Anniversary show, Models return to The Corner on Sunday afternoon to do it all again. From Hold On, I Hear Motion, Big On Love, Out of Mind Out of Sight, Barbados, Two Cabs to the Toucan, Local and/or General, Unhappy and more, Models will deliver a career spanning set.

Why: Freud’s dead. But if history is anything to go by, that only intensifies the often half-researched worship of the work attached to the name.

2) Dylan Moran: Dr Cosmos Tour

4th November

What: Legendary Irish comedian Dylan Moran is returning to Australia with a brand-new show Dr. Cosmos. Moran will once again offer his unique take on love, politics, misery and the everyday absurdities of life, all served with poetical panache from one of the finest comedians of his generation.

Why: Come on, you’ve already bought the ticket.

1) Melbourne Cup Carnival Week

5th-9th November

What: Be part of Australia’s most loved and iconic world-class event, the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Experience this incredible event that combines sport, entertainment, fashion and food – all in one place, the stunning Flemington Racecourse. Glamorous, refined and full of history, the Melbourne Cup Carnival is a must-do event for Melbournians and visitors alike.

Why: It’s the one race that stops a nation. Apart from whatever race is currently being demonised by your chosen media outlet.
