10) National Swap Day
6th October
What: This year will be the ninth annual National Swap Day and to commemorate the day, The Clothing Exchange will host clothing swaps. National Swap Day is the biggest swap on the calendar and it’s a great time to share the joys of swapping. Bring up to eight items and celebrate the global phenomenon of swapping over a glass of bubbles and nibbles!
Why: Bored of being internally riddled with your own strain of mould? Sample someone else’s!
9) Ultimate Fighting Championship 243: Whittaker vs. Adesanya
6th October
What: Australia’s first UFC champion, middleweight Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker, will defend his 185-pound belt against interim title holder, Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, in a five-round championship bout.
Why: It’s strangely comforting experiencing barbarism without an accompanying hailstorm of complex morality. Just two idiots beating the crap out of each other.
8) Kids Book Fest: Listen Up! Speak Up!
12th October
What: The Little Bookroom is thrilled to present Kids Book Fest in partnership with Yarra Libraries: they are taking over the entire Fitzroy Town Hall to celebrate the magic of storytelling! Enjoy two hours of discussion and performances that will engage and inspire young readers and writers to speak up!
Why: Then enjoy six hundred thousand hours of increasing illiteracy as iPads replace all major independent brain functions.
7) Ballarat International Foto Biennale
6th-20th October
What: The Ballarat International Foto Biennale is one of Australia’s pre-eminent photographic festivals. Program highlights include To the Moon and Back, in recognition of the Apollo moon landing 50 years ago, A History of Misogyny, Chapter One: On Abortion, a stark look at women’s reproductive rights, and Adi Nes’s homoerotic portraiture, which delves into questions of gender, masculinity and humanism.
Why: One of the few events that features the art of photography in which your data won’t be sold at a major profit. Though if you do decide to use Instagram while you’re there, that’s your prerogative.

3) Hans Zimmer – Live on Tour

2) Motorclassica
11th-13th October
