10) Cirque du Soleil: KURIOS – Cabinet Des Curiosités
5th October-24th November
What: Cirque du Soleil will bring its newest creation to Australia: KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities. Created and directed by Michel Laprise, Kurios looks at a late 19th-century world inventor who invents a machine that defies the laws of time, space, and dimension in order to reinvent everything around him with steampunk elements featuring characters from another dimension that interact with him and a tribute to the power of the human imagination.
Why: Oh yeah. Those inventors from the 1800s were all about steampunk. Charles Darwin was really into Final Fantasy VI when he wasn’t drawing finch beaks.

9) Green Fest
1st October
What: Green Fest is here to show you all the perks to living sustainably – from food and coffee discounts to fashion steals. It’s time to get earth wise. The festival will feature a clothes swap corner, workshops on Precious Plastics, a Grow It (Cook It) Yourself workshop, free lunch with UNSW Vegetarian Society, vegan cheese and milk tastings, a DIY body butter workshop, a screening of the film 2040 and much more.
Why: They’ve undersold themselves. Green Fest will also show you all the perks of living unsustainably. The perkiest of which is never having to spend a whole afternoon with vegans ever again.

8) Southern Highlands Food & Wine Festival
5th & 6th October
What: The Southern Highlands Food & Wine Festival is back at Bradman Oval in the heart of Bowral, Southern Highlands NSW. With over 70 stalls featuring the regions finest food, wine, produce, beer and spirits along and live music it is certainly one of the best ways to taste the region.
Why: We agree. The absolute best way to experience the Southern Highlands is drunk.

7) Sprung Festival
2nd-5th October
What: Each year CSU’s Bathurst campus hosts a two-week festival of arts and creativity facilitated and constructed by the graduating Theatre Media cohort. The festival is unique as it incorporates all 3 years of the course to act, produce and devise the creative works within this festival. This year’s theme is Capture the Moment and the organisers want attendees to become part of the artistic process. This year there are four stage shows, two story orientated performance art pieces and a wearable art showcase.
Why: Because there just aren’t enough avenues for arts students to shove their Vonnegut tributes in your face.

6) Chelsea Handler: Life Will Be The Death of Me Tour
5th October
What: Fresh from her 27-date tour in the US, this brand-new stand up show is classic Chelsea Handler. The brash candour and self-deprecating humour that fuelled her previous bestselling essays collections and wildly successful TV shows is here in spades. Regarded as one of the most successful figures in entertainment today, Chelsea Handler’s talk shows, best-selling books and stand-up comedy have attracted millions of fans worldwide.
Why: If there’s one way to measure how good a stand up comedian is, it’s by what they said to 50 cent on their talk show.
5) National Young Writers’ Festival
3rd-6th October
What: Thee National Young Writers’ Festival (NYWF) will be returning this year for the country’s largest gathering of young and innovative writers. The 2019 program promises to embrace the festival’s mandate to be fun, informative, and celebratory. Attendees will experience events that continue to expand on the broad definition of writing including zines, comics, blogging, screenwriting, poetry, spoken word, hip hop music, journalism, autobiography, comedy, podcasting, songwriting and prose.
Why: One of the world’s oldest institutions, second only to prostitution (but involving pretty much the same shade of morality), is revamping itself for the younger generation. Ugh. At least the senile Kings Cross madames have enough dignity not to hover-board around Kings Cross with vape pens sandwiched between their corseted knockers.

4) Jimmy Barnes: Shutting Down Your Town Tour
3rd October
What: ‘Barnesy’ is the heart and soul of Australian rock & roll. It’s time to finally return to what he loves most – electrifying audiences with one of the greatest catalogues in the history of Oz rock with the Shutting Down Your Town Tour featuring Cold Chisel anthems, solo classics like Working Class Man and Ain’t No Second Prize plus his current radio hit, Shutting Down Our Town.
Why: If Barnesy is the heart and soul of Australian rock & roll, frankly, we should all be on benefits. Pacemakers aren’t cheap, you know.
3) Deni Ute Muster
4th & 5th October
What: The Deni Ute Muster is an iconic event played out on some of the largest, flattest plains on earth. The event involves over 24 hours of live music, Ute Show N Shine competition, Bullride Spectacular (Rodeo), trade and catering stalls, NSW Whip Cracking Championships, Woodchop demonstrations, Helicopter Rides, Circus, Camel Rides, AFL on the big screen, and a family centre to name a few. The musical line-up so far includes: Tim McGraw, Lee Kernaghan, John Williamson, Beccy Cole, Ross Wilson, Travis Collins, Adam Harvey, Sunny Cowgirls, Ben Ransom, Aleyce Simmonds, Round Mountain Girls and Mustered Courage.
Why: A large gathering of Utes without a race riot. That is pretty iconic.

2) Hans Zimmer – Live on Tour
3rd October
What: With a career that spans several decades, and a resume that includes The Dark Knight trilogy, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception, Blue Planet II, The Amazing Spiderman 2, The Simpsons Movie, Pirates of The Caribbean, The Da Vinci Code, Black Hawk Down and The Lion King, there remains few areas of cinema untouched by Zimmer’s musical genius. Combining stunning visuals, an expansive lightshow and music from cinematic masterpieces of the past several decades, ‘Hans Zimmer Live’ is an experience not to be missed.
Why: All the greatest, most emotionally affecting moments of cinema that crafted your childhood and stoked the flames of your impassioned youth. Experience that but without the story part and just the disassociated accompanying soundtrack. After all, there’s nothing historically troubling about a piece of music removed from its original context and venerated in a…different one.
1) Sydney Good Food Month
1st-31st October
What: Some of the world’s best chefs will descend on Sydney for the 21st edition of Good Food Month. Taking over restaurants across the city this October, the annual food festival will see pop-up restaurants and dinners from the likes of Alain Passard, Hiroyuki Sato and Thomas Frebel, as well as pasta parties, vegan feasts and the return of the Night Noodle Markets.
Why: The coroner’s report from your multiple coronary-induced death will sound so much more colourful with the names ‘Passard’, ‘Sato’ and ‘Frebel’ under ’cause’.
