10) Reef and Beef at Iki-jime

What: Iki-jime will partner with Dal Zotto Wines to present the finest from the kitchen accompanied by a selection from the Dal Zotto Winery. Iki-jime will give reinvent the humble surf n turf in the classic French style with wines from Chapoutier.

9) Tales Of American Whiskey

7) Ballarat International Foto Biennale

What: The Ballarat International Foto Biennale is one of Australia’s pre-eminent photographic festivals. Program highlights include To the Moon and Back, in recognition of the Apollo moon landing 50 years ago, A History of Misogyny, Chapter One: On Abortion, a stark look at women’s reproductive rights, and Adi Nes’s homoerotic portraiture, which delves into questions of gender, masculinity and humanism.
Why: One of the few events that features the art of photography in which your data won’t be sold at a major profit. Though if you do decide to use Instagram while you’re there, that’s your prerogative.

6) Whiskey & Pickle Master Tasting with Wild Turkey & Russell’s Reserve

What: Festivals are about celebration, the gathering of people to revel in arts, culture, food, and community. The African festival is a highlight of Melbourne’s African community and its offerings. It is aimed to be a fun and engaging event. The day will be bustling with vendors serving flavours from all over Africa, lots of activities for kids and live entertainment. You will be humming, swaying and dancing to the beat of the drum in no time.
Why: If you’re white, it’s best you don’t dance. People will be eating.

4) Little Food Festival
25th & 26th September
What: Using art and play, the Little Food Festival offers a simple and fun opportunity for little ones to consider complex food topics such as health and sustainability. For two days only, Little Food Festival will fill the main square with composting stations, native foods, eco-warrior workshops, exhibitions, cooking demonstrations and more. Through these hands-on workshops, kids will be invited to listen, question, taste, and explore the power that food has to positively influence our health, the environment and community around us.
Why: Desensitise them young. You don’t want the first time they meet a vegan to be at university. It led to a phase in our lives that we still can’t quite fully wash out of our clothes.

3) Royal Melbourne Show

Melbourne Fringe transforms the city into a platform for every kind of artform imaginable, supporting over 3,000 artists to present 450+ works in 170+ venues to more than 360,000 people. The Fringe celebrates freedom of artistic expression, takes voices from the margins and amplifies them across the city. By pushing boundaries and illuminating new thoughts and ideas, the Festival transforms not only the city’s places but its people too.
Why: Hundreds of thousands of hipsters infesting every corner of city, randomly exploding in quasi-unsolicited theatrics. What a transformation for Melbourne.
