Top 10 Melbourne Revelry On this week 08/09/2019

We’re buttering you up with nostalgia. Butter will help you swallow the horse-pill of rave techno combined with contemporary experimental theatre.

10) Fully Gassed XL presents Footsie, Jamakabi, Sir Spyro + More

13th September

What: Fully Gassed XL, 50/50 Grime Melbourne & Dark Riddims in conjunction with Whatever Agency presents the Rhythm Rollers 2019 showcase with UK Grime OG’s: Footsie Newham, Sir Spyro and Jamakabi. These 3 need little introduction. All have been an integral part of the flourishing UK Grime Scene since the beginning and are still to this date staples across the UK, Europe and worldwide.

Why: Imagine if the most loud and incomprehensible parts of hip hop and techno were thrown into a motorised sink disposal. Then imagine jamming your own arm into a motorised sink disposal to experience some sort of reprieve.

9) Full Moon Party

13th September

What: Billboard The Venue will be completely transformed over 2 rooms, with 1000’s of free glow sticks, festival wands, flashing leis, UV face and body paint, fire performers and amazing neon light shows!

Why: Like a bad LSD trip but completely devoid of any meaningful revelations.

8) Prog Sesh presents TIMELOCK

13th September

What: Timelock (Iboga Records, Spin Twist Records, Blue Tunes Records), owner of Dropzone Records, has been in the industry for over 20 years. His latest release is Rework on the Remix that will be released on Spin Twist Records. He will headline this incredible night of the best techno and psytrance acts in the world, hosted by the Progression Sessions family.

Why: Nothing says ‘progressive’ like a man in his 40s wearing an undersized hoodie bleating at a club full of 20-years-olds to ‘feel the groove’.

7) Crissy Criss Live

13th September

What: Twisted Audio and Enigma Sound join forces for the first time to bring you a truly iconic name from the world of drum & bass! Fresh off the release of his new label and chart topping album with the same name ‘War On Silence’, he has made a massive impact on the scene. Come see the man behind it all and make some noise for Crissy Criss!

Why: War is hell. Never has the phrase been so apt.

6) Melbourne Techno Collective (No. 3)

13th September

What: MTC is back and ready to bring you some proper techno to help you start your spring off the right way! In 2019 they are going back to doing what they do best and focusing on the excellent talent this awesome TECHNO city has!

Why: So. Melbourne’s a techno city now. And here we thought the blues and post punk legends that once inhabited the city were a matter of pride. But then again…who could possibly compete with songs like ‘Wrek Tha Discotek’?

5) Butter Sessions: Sleep D, Darcy Justice, Vanessa Worm, NIMH, Big Yawn & JAZZ

14th September

What: A hot ‘n’ sweaty warehouse party nestled between Brunswick East, Thornbury and Coburg. Slither down the stairs at factory 1/10 and prime your senses for the onslaught of scientific beats, crisp rave and intelligent dance music.

Why: So the day’s finally come. Dance music has finally admitted its intelligence to the world. Its talent for causing immense pain to delicate human organs was just the first phase its plan to dominate the human race. Apparently the next phase involves some kind of human-reptile hybrid.

4) The Afterglow

13th September

What: Join immersive art collective The Boon Companions for a night of reflection, letting go, and switching on your internal illumination. Featuring multiple live performances by artists, musicians and makers, giving you the opportunity to honour your shadow self whilst simultaneously letting the light in. Be curious, go on an adventure, and become ultimately incandescent.

Why: ‘Incandescent’ is certainly a word for it. ‘Alcohol-induced vomiting after-sweats’ is a more accurate phrase.

3) 26 Things You’ve Been Doing Wrong with Sam Simmons

11th & 12th September

What: Simmons is one of the most daring and unconventional comics in Australia, completely original and vastly absurd, with one foot firmly planted in the soils of reality, and the other rooted deep in a determination to redefine silliness. Here are 26 life hacks to make your life infinitely better and, if you’re lucky, to inevitably question your own self-worth.

Why: One of the characters from ‘Guess Who?’ has gained sentience and, unsurprisingly, has some of the most intelligent and poignant insights ever amplified on the world stage.

2) Fleetwood Mac 2019 Tour

9th September

What: Legendary, GRAMMY-award winning band Fleetwood Mac have announced an Australian tour which will feature the new line-up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie along with newcomers Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. The enduring spirit of Fleetwood Mac stands for an incredible body of great music that has connected with generations of people all over the world for more than 50 years.

Why: It’s that old philosophical conundrum. If you keep replacing parts of a boat at what point does it stop being the original boat? Well, who cares? You’ll never be able to afford a boat. Not when you keep pissing away money on Fleetwood Mac’s new lineups.

The Fringe celebrates freedom of artistic expression, takes voices from the margins and amplifies them across the city.
