12th September
What: Enjoy a free feed, activities for all ages and a chance to learn more about when it’s time to ask R U OK? and how to use 4 steps to navigate a conversation with someone you’re worried about. Local mental health and suicide prevention services will join in the day as well to let you know what support is available for the times an R U OK? conversation is too big for friends and family.
Why: Mental health is an increasingly complex issue inextricably interwoven with sociological circumstance and intrinsic psychological impulses. Solve it all in 2 hours with a free breakfast and some jaunty role play!

9) ‘Thrown to the Lions’ with Magda Szubanski
10th September
What: Social media is the new arena where ideas and individuals live or die at the will of the mob. It was as an advocate for marriage equality that Magda Szubanski encountered the real nature of the internet, red in tooth and claw. Magda is keen to know if we can find new ways to meet and talk, ways that we can reach across seemingly uncrossable divides to find one another. She continues to believe social media can be a powerful force for good – but only if we make it that way.
Why: We’re not sold on the validity of this. To acknowledge social media as an influencing force at all is to acknowledge that both the good and terrible aspects of human nature are amplified by it. You know. Like a diet program that technically contains fruit and vegetables, but costs hundreds of dollars, manipulates the psychology of its potential consumers via folksy celebrities and results in a money-draining inescapable cycle of calculated validation and shame, called something stupid like Penny Laige…Benny Hague?
8) ‘The Poets are Dancing’ Exhibition Opening
13th September
What: Join Bijanka Bacic as she presents her first solo exhibition, ‘The Poets are Dancing’. Bijanka is a young emerging artist based in Sydney, Australia who’s a recent graduate from National Art School. Her practice explores the reconstruction and re-creation of the figure stepped into an interdisciplinary collaboration across all of the arts. Bijanka emphasises on contributing and generating a unique visual language of the human form.
Why: Why appreciate just one form of artistic expression when you could experience all of them crammed together in one big art soup? An exhibition to satisfy the desire aroused inside you when you were reading Wordsworth and suddenly thought: ‘You know what this needs? A contemporary dance movement piece about someone’s first menstrual cramp’.
7) Chicago the Musical
8th September-13th October
What: Don’t miss Chicago coming to the Capitol Theatre this August and starring Natalie Bassingthwaighte as Roxie Hart, Alinta Chidzey as Velma Kelly and Casey Donovan as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton’. Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, CHICAGO’s sexy, sassy score includes “All That Jazz” and “Razzle Dazzle”.
Why: Remember those times when media savvy and fame would excuse rampant criminality? Good thing we’ve matured as a society.

6) The Enchanted Night Garden

5) Movies and Magnums: THE TRIP TO SPAIN
9th September
What: Movies and Magnums is a series of dinners held in Restaurant Hubert’s Theatre Royale. This, the third film in this series will be THE TRIP TO SPAIN – a hilarious road trip style movie which is equal parts gags and gastronomy.
Why: Dinner and a movie is no longer a cheap date. It’s an overpriced, exhausting romp into pretension we’d never hoped possible.
4) Fine Wine Tasting Sydney

12th-15th September

2) Sedition 2019 Cabaret Conspiracy
13th September
What: The late 1970’s saw an explosion of radical cabaret in Darlinghurst that was to set the mould for much to follow. This evening, Johnny Allen will remember the glory days of Cabaret Conspiracy at Garibaldi’s; Fingers De Main will recreate the magic of the cabaret; Martin Raphael, Musical Director of Sideshow Theatre Company, will pay tribute to its Director the magnificent Michael Matou and its stars including Fifi L’Amour and Simon Reptile; Jan Cornall and Elizabeth Drake will reprise their hit feminist musical Failing in Love Again; the prophets of the absurd Funny Stories will tread the boards once more; the legendary queen of burlesque Elizabeth Burton will recount highlights of her illustrious career as a performance artist and the highest paid stripper in Australia; and Vittorio Bianchi and Vashti Hughes will tell more Piccolo Tales.
Why: The cabaret tribute of your loveliest most sordid fantasies hosted in the sexiest place imaginable. The State Library.
1) Sydney Fringe Festival
8th-30th September
What: The Sydney Fringe Festival is the largest independent arts festival in NSW. With events spread out across the sprawling city, the festival celebrates and highlights the amazing work of local independent artists, art makers and performers, inviting audiences to visit undiscovered parts of the city, a new venue or a secret bar, and discover the fantastic creative offerings artists prepare year-round. This year, the Fringe is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a lineup focused on re-igniting Sydney’s nightlife.
Why: Considering the current state of Sydney’s nightlife, we can only assume the attempt at re-ignition will involve literal arson.
