Top 10 Melbourne Revelry On this week 11/08/2019

This week’s going to get a little wild. There’ll be no end to the clerical duties.

10) Stable & Cat House present Cleric

17th August

What: The mysterious Mancunian and young UK producer Cleric has been most prolific with his creative outlet on an extensive amount of releases for labels such as Arts, Figure as well as his own imprint Clergy Recordings. Celebrated for his crisp and atmospheric work, Cleric describes his music as a pathway to expressing emotion to the audience. Come experience him live.

Why: How revolutionary. Music as a means of expressing emotion? If only someone had told Leonard Cohen about this before he died. His oeuvre wouldn’t have been so dispassionately robotic.

Why: A sex dance that, by today’s standards, you could bring your grandmother to. If you’re…into that.

1) Winterwild Festival 2019: Visions and Ecstasies (First Weekend)

16th-18th August

What: Bid welcome once again to the after-dark winter festival of the arts. Witness abandoned quarries lit up by projection art, yoga, ritualistic bonfires, consensual touch workshops, didgeridoo-guided meditation, forest bathing, panel discussions and live gigs. This, the first weekend, will feature highlights such as Visions of Excess, which combines kaleidoscopic visuals with the music of Black Heart Death Cult and Flyying Colours, a psychedelic tribute to Jimi Hendrix, and an immersive blend of projections, lights and sounds in the quarry.

Why: In a world increasingly awash in the horrors of climate change, terrorism, right-wing nationalism, the resurgence of militant racism and a still-touring Cher, it’s comforting once in a while to put on a scary mask and immerse yourself in a world of childish fears: secret caves, demons, ghosts, witches and fairies. And it’s even more comforting to take a tonne of hallucinogens and space out at a Jimi Hendrix tribute.
