10) Top Dog Film Festival
17th July
What: A 2 hour cinematic celebration honouring the bond between dogs and their people. This carefully curated program of short canine-themed films is comprised of the most inspirational, heart-warming and entertaining stories about dogs and their human companions, from independent filmmakers around the globe.

What: The NOOSA alive! Festival is a 10-day arts and cultural festival which offers a huge selection of music, theatre, dance, film, food, forms, literature, visual arts, and workshops. This year’s line-up includes performances by Queensland Ballet, musician Tim Freedman of the Whitlams, comedy duo the Umbilical Brothers, GANZA Capella, Modern Maori Quartet, a one-act play festival, plus so much more.
Why: Everything in one child-friendly festival. Including several opportunities for the Umbilical Brothers to distract your children whilst you sneak away and drive away at high speed to a better life.

2) Voices on the Coast
17th-20th July
What: Held annually on the Sunshine Coast, Voices on the Coast is a literature festival that attracts leading Australian authors, illustrators and poets who present talks and workshops to students and the general public. This year, humorous stories are prominent at the festival as a method to engage young people with literature and the love of reading.
Why: We don’t really see the need for the big push towards encouraging the youth of today to read and write. Just look at some of their fan fictions. Forty thousand words on Benedict Cumberbatch’s dick alone.

1) Birdsville Big Red Bash
16th-18th July
What: The Birdsville Big Red Bash might be the world’s most remote music festival, but don’t let the distance put you off. Since its inauguration, this family (and dog) friendly music festival has grown in size, drawing 6000-people to this corner of Queensland. This year will see a stellar lineup with Australian music royalty Midnight Oil headlining the Big Red backdrop stage off the back of their European tour. They’ll be followed by a slate of other artists including The Living End and Casey Chambers.
Why: No one rocks harder than a bald former Labor MP.
