A Vivid Distraction

Well, folks, it’s that time of year again. When Sydney’s revenue sees a massive spike and so too does the incidence of child seizures.

Vivid has returned to set the city alight in a massive three week program of lights, music and ideas in order to, amongst other things, temporarily shift our minds away from somehow forcing Queensland to declare independent nationhood.

This year promises to be the biggest yet, although, according to early reports, it does not entirely seem to have lived up to that cocky claim.

Take this is as a lesson learned, City of Sydney Councilpeople.

If you’re going to impose ridiculous lockout laws the rest of the year, you better provide a ‘The Purge’ style binge of excess during the three short weeks Sydney has left in the calendar to piece together a semblance of a nightlife.

Though we don’t want to prematurely judge the success of the festival.

After all, acts like The Cure will be performing live and visiting director Spike Lee will be a highlight of Vivid Ideas.

Isn’t it comforting to know that if we can’t rely upon our local leaders, we can always have agents of spectacle shipped over from the US and UK to temporarily distract us?

Yes. A real comfort.
