Top 10 Sydney Revelry On this week 26/05/2019

You’ll be gabbing about this week for years. It takes about that long to get to the top of the liver transplant list.

10) Bring Back the Funk Day Party

26th May

What: Bring Back the Funk is back for round two! Featuring: DJ Kate Monroe, DJ Dom de Sousa and Deejay Chip. The policy? Uplifting funky vocal house from the early 2000s to today!

Why: It’s telling that the recent saturation of ‘policies’ in the current sociopolitical climate has made this the most refreshing policy we’ve heard in a long time. And it involves funk music.

9) Spektrum 3rd Birthday

31st May

What: You’re invited to celebrate Spektrum’s third Birthday alongside NOIR on one of Sydney’s most iconic dance floors! Noir is a driving force of the house and techno underground and a reigning leader in both the favourable underground and international circuits.

Why: Ahh…what better describes the gritty, violent, revolutionary nature of underground music than the word ‘favourable’?

8) Jade MacRae & SAYAH at Ziggy’s

1st June

What: Ziggy’s Barber Shop is hosting a series of pop-up live music parties featuring established and emerging female artists. Jade MacRae’s vocals soar over deep soulful grooves with a sound reminiscent of Etta James, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Big Maybelle and Dinah Washington. SAYAH is a singer-songwriter from Sydney with electro-soul flavours and self-confessional lyrics.

Why: Where better to host groundbreaking female artists than an environment in which the air is 70% floating beard cuttings?

What: Up from Melbourne, conducting an absolute dream lineup of the best of the best musicians from Sydney and Melbourne, Lachlan Mitchell, armed with a whiteboard and a pen, directs an improvised jazz based jam one chord away from ambiguity.

Why: Describing jazz with the word ‘ambiguity’ seems almost as tautological as jazz itself. Almost.
