Eulogise Yourself with Shane Shanahan
We are born alone and we die alone. That’s a line often used by people whose entire personality is based on the Wikipedia entry for ‘nihilism’ and liking the band you’ve definitely never heard of whose associations with Neo-Nazism are ironic, obviously.
But the fact is that the vast majority of us are born surrounded by people and die equally hounded by them. There’s no clearer indication of that than the almost masturbatory fervour with which those on their deathbed are petted and lauded, no matter how hard they’ve tried to be the biggest arsehole they could be.
We absolutely do not have the comfort of our dying breath being expelled without the enormous social pressure of saying something profound that will exist in the minds of a tearful audience for years afterwards.
So it’s best that you use this period of as-close-to-complete-isolation-as-you-could-get to etch some niche musical references into your brain so you’re not left on your deathbead, scrambling for a non-Smash Mouth song with which to communicate the weightiness and fragility of existence.
Do so with Silkroad Home Sessions with Shane Shanahan.
Percussionist, composer, and arranger Shane Shanahan has combined his studies of drumming traditions from around the world with his background in jazz, rock, and Western art music to create a unique, highly sought after style. He is one of Silkroad’s inaugural co-artistic directors, and has performed with Bobby McFerrin, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Philip Glass, Alison Krauss, Chaka Khan, and Deep Purple, among others, and has appeared at the White House, playing for President and First Lady Obama. Experience his talents in a unique livestreamed performance.
Life’s a tale. Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. Signifying nothing. But you’d better have something more meaningful than “All Star” to play you out or the critics will crucify you.
