Dance in the Grey Area at the Good Things Festival

It’s nearing the end of 2019 and the concept of good and bad is more nebulous than ever.

In part because of unprecedented technological advancement, in part of because of the proliferation of media in relation to said advancement and its consequences vis a vis babies, dead babies, the birth of too many of a certain race of babies, the birth of too few of a different race of babies, designer babies and the babies belonging to a once Nazi-affiliated, current paedophile-affiliated Imperialist house of tax dodgers.

But in most part, it’s due to the fact that we, on the whole as a society, have realised that there is no way to define ‘good’ and ‘bad’, as they are relative concepts.

An apple is not ‘good’ or ‘bad’, it is a fruit that is both or neither. Similarly, a gun-toting child-murdering maniac isn’t ‘good’ or ‘bad’, he is the subject of a new Netflix series.

There is no universal metric for ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in 2019, and there’s no better evocation of this than the Good Things Festival.

“Good things festival established itself on the Australian festival calendar in 2018 bringing forth a new era for Australian alternative music fans, ushered in by an unstoppable army of some of the heaviest, and most alternative bands the universe had on offer. After its successful launch in 2018, good things once again returns for 2019.

The bands are approaching the starting line…

First, is the Incredible Ire driven by Parkway Drive, fresh from headlining major European Festivals and now headlining their first ever Australian touring festival playing their only Australian shows for 2019. In joint pole position is the Degenerates in A Day To Remember. Manoeuvring for position is the Mansfield Maniacs, Violent Soho for their only Australian shows of 2019. Right behind is no pads, no helmets, just the pop punk anthems of Simple Plan.

Then there’s Peddlers of punk the legendary Bad Religion. Next we have Simple Creatures with Mark Hoppus (blink-182) and Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low) followed by metal heavyweights Trivium, Australian surf rock royalty Skegss, Australian rock titans Karnivool and Enter Shikari. Right on their tail are the dynamic duo, global pop superstars The Veronicas.

And there’s Falling In Reverse with Dance Gavin Dance. Cruising along below is that Mean Machine with those double dealing do-badders Reel Big Fish, buzzing metal pop sensation Poppy, Thy Art Is Murder, Ice Nine Kills and Slowly Slowly.

Rounding out this cavalcade of stars is some of the best young Australian bands on the circuit including The Bennies, Voyager, Yours Truly, Windwaker, Gravemind and The Beautiful Monument.”

It’s not ‘good’ or ‘bad’ music, it’s 12 hours of MDMA.
