What: Handsdown & Leigh Boy are set to warm the floor with some hard hitting techno at Our House’s house warming party. Handsdown & Leigh Boy have no doubt had a major influence on Melbourne’s techno scene. These boys are no strangers behind the decks, playing at some of the biggest festivals and events around Australia.
Why: Probably the only context left in which it is possible for someone under the age of 25 to attend a house warming party.
8) Thick as Thieves present Sébastien Léger, Nakadia & Cassian

What: Revolver Upstairs is opening up their summer party season with a double header that is sure to be one for the memory bank! With a career spanning over 20+ years, Sébastien Léger is one of house music’s most consistent heroes. Nakadia is loved for her music as much as for her personality and she is out to conquer the world and show us why she’s one of the leading ladies in Techno. Sydney producer, Cassian, is undeniably coming into his own as an artist, and it’s impossible not to be excited for what’s to come. Experience these three powerhouses of techno live.
Why: Well, there you are, folks. The only way to get into a rave bar is if you’re under the age of 25 or over the age 40 peddling generic house music or ecstasy.

What: In support of Beyond Blue, The Noble Experiment is excited to announce that they will be hosting a one-off techno event, CATALYST in Melbourne for all to enjoy. Featuring: Human Condition, Tom Tanto, Kech, Luke la Greca B2B Ryan Diep and Tali.
Why: Club techno for a charitable cause other than 40 year old DJs trying to salve their horniness and fear of irrelevance.

6) Lovebirds & Cristoph: Riva Day Party

What: Untitled Group & Thick as Thieves are excited to be celebrating 10 years since the release of the iconic dance record ‘In The Shadows’ at beachside location Riva, St Kilda. Playing alongside German born yet Melbourne claimed house DJ, Lovebirds, is UK’s Cristoph, as well as a handful of locals for this one time only unique day party experience.
Why: “German born yet Melbourne claimed”. How refreshing to see something with that description not affiliated with Neo-Nazism. How refreshing that techno music has found a way to be refreshing. This must be what it’s like being in a Sprite ad.
5) République Rooftop Day Party

What: Set in Melbourne’s CBD, République will be held at Top Yard Rooftop. Expect all your favourite genres once again from Sega to Dancehall, Soukous to Afrobeats, Zouk, Reggae and of course R&B. Experience the ambience of Mauritius, Seychelles, Rodrigues and much more as you dance till the sun goes down.
Why: If the ambience is slightly marred by the drunk white guy shouting, “Yah man” every five minutes, you’ve no reason to complain. That’s pretty much the ambience in Mauritius, Seychelles and Rodrigues too.

3) Underground Lovers Album Tour

What: Underground Lovers launch their tenth studio album A Left Turn with a rare national tour. The band will feature tracks from the new album (including current singles Passer-by and Seven Day Weekend), as well a selection of classic songs from their vast back catalogue. Thirty years after recording their first single Round and Round with legendary Melbourne producer Simon Grounds, Underground Lovers continue to surprise and inspire their dedicated and growing fanbase with new recorded music and celebrated live shows.

2) Soulfor Wine
17th November
What: Experience a tasting of organically farmed and 100% additive-free wines from Australia and abroad. There’ll be nearly 40 highly exciting local and international winemakers along with a selection of fantastic importers. The bar will also be stocked with plenty of delicious sour beer and life-changing cider. Cooking on the day will be local heroes Josh Murphy and Dave Moyle and there’ll be two wood fired ovens roaring all day. Music on the day will be curated by the elite superstars from Fitzroy’s very own Plug Seven Records. Get ready for ten hours of Jazz, Soul, Disco and Afrobeat from DJs and also a live band. This will be one of the nicest opportunities all year to grab a bottle of wine and a plate of cheese, sit on the charming Mercator Lawn and listen to unforgettable music.
Why: Well, they say “unforgettable”. With unlimited wine and beer, they’ve basically issued a challenge.

1) Melbourne Music Festival
17th-23rd November
What: Melbourne Music Week (MMW) is a nine-day celebration of the city’s thriving world-renowned music scene. This time around, MMW returns to its 2011 Kubik concept, bringing its bright and boxy installation to Alexandra Gardens. Beyond the hub, a vast range of events will take place across all kinds of venues. Robert Henke performs Lumière IIIx at the Melbourne Recital Hall, Goethe-Institut team up with MMW to bring DAF to Melbourne Town Hall, a handful of the WAT Artists roster soundtrack the night markets at Queen Victoria Market, Chiara Kickdrum leads a night at synthesiser studio MESS, an Algorave workshop takes place at Signal and Elisabeth Dixon employs the Federation Bells for a specially commissioned work at Birrarung Marr. The week wraps up with a closing party in the Hamer Hall foyer co-hosted by Crown Ruler and Bizarro, featuring Luca Lozano, Roza Terenzi and Mr. Ho.
Why: All the indie pretentiousness and insistent inaccessibility of the regular contemporary Melbourne music scene, but marginally more expensive.
