10) Up Late and Uncut

What: Burlesque on stage and on your table, paying homage to the history of burlesque. Produced by Porcelain Alice and Memphis Mae this is a feminist, dive-bar come vintage strip club. The dancers bump and grind, tease and please – all for your tips.
Why: Because if there’s anything more tantalising than watered-down whisky and a sexy performance derived from 1820s England we haven’t heard of it.

9) Something Will Happen
13th August
What: Something Will Happen brings together Lamorna Nightingale, SPIRAL, and Nicholas Gentile to create a musical buffet humming with originality and expression. Four 20-minute sets are scattered throughout the night for an art music warehouse party with a difference in Kammerklang’s sonic speakeasy: the Barbiturates Warehouse Space in Marrickville.
Why: They’ve named the temporary venue for a central nervous system depressant far more powerful than alcohol. So that should give you a pretty clear indication as to how cognisant you’ll have to be to enjoy the proffered party vibe.

8) HTRK ‘Venus In Leo’ Album Launch
16th August
What: HTRK, the esteemed duo of Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang, launch their new album Venus In Leo. Venus In Leo arrives five years on from 2014’s Psychic 9-5 Club. While some much-loved HTRK hallmarks remain, Venus in Leo differs markedly in its energy, returning to HTRK’s underground rock past with the stylistic playfulness and variety of a modern mix-tape.
Why: We’re not quite sure what they mean by ‘modern mixtape’, but if its functionally the same as a ‘present-day VHS’, expect a lot of hipsters pretending, for some reason, that the quality is superior to something you could get for free from any of the other thousands of generic club-rock bands of the 2010s.
7) The Oyster Club Live
15th August
What: A non-genre specific variety show showcasing the best creatives and supporting talented emerging artists.The Oyster Club presents performers from the deepest depths of the underground; throwing themselves on stage, they flap around for your enjoyment. Bask in their glory, ride their waves of creativity and ocean lust, and delight in their splendour!
Why: You know a show is good when they’re hesitant to specify exactly what it is. Like when a restaurant describes its cuisine as ‘fusion’ and you wind up with taco meat bouillabaisse.

6) Gaychella

What: A music festival with a difference. Come in your best festival outfit and experience two rooms featuring RnB, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Trap, Dance Anthems and House and a special strip show performance by Tamara. Featuring: Cheq, Tamara, Talisha, Simeen, toripepper, Naomi, Latifa Taa and Baessia.
Why: Well. At least the stripping is solicited at this festival and not as a result of mixing alcopops and ecstasy.

What: An electronic music experience shining light on Sydney talent, all with the goal of reducing waste from pop up events. Brace yourself for deep house & techno tunes and an electric dance floor! Featuring: Hoten, Wildfox, Almo, Atomic Blonde, Feet4Hands, Mintox, Raquel, Svint Peter and Yakov.
Why: If only they applied their aim of reducing waste to every aspect of their psychology. Perhaps then society would be free of the horrors of EDM.

4) Grape, Grain & Graze Festival
17th August
What: Spend an afternoon tasting incredible wines from over 2,200 entries from the Sydney Royal Wine Show, enjoy tasters from the Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show and satisfy food cravings at grazing stations laden with Sydney Royal medal-winning food.
Why: You’re a filthy animal. Why deny it? You can wear a classy casual suit to this thing but honestly, would you really rather come off as an Orwellian analogy or just accept it and straight up come dressed in a giant disposable bib?
3) Snow Patrol ‘Live and Acoustic’ Tour
11th August
What: A run of Australian shows see Snow Patrol performing in a ‘Live and Acoustic’ mode as a 3-piece featuring singer and guitarist Gary Lightbody, Johnny McDaid on Guitar, piano and vocals and Nathan Connolly also on guitar and vocals. Performing songs live as you’ve never heard them before, the band will be playing all your favourites from classic Snow Patrol albums including ‘Run’, ‘Open Your Eyes’, and ‘Chasing Cars’, alongside songs from their 2018 release ‘Wildness’.
Why: If they lay there. If they just lay there. For about 13 years. Would they find relevance again? Sure they would. If Boy George can, anyone can.
2) Fleetwood Mac 2019 Tour
15th & 17th August
What: Legendary, GRAMMY-award winning band Fleetwood Mac have announced an Australian tour which will feature the new line-up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie along with newcomers Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. The enduring spirit of Fleetwood Mac stands for an incredible body of great music that has connected with generations of people all over the world for more than 50 years.
Why: It’s that old philosophical conundrum. If you keep replacing parts of a boat at what point does it stop being the original boat? Well, who cares? You’ll never be able to afford a boat. Not when you keep pissing away money on Fleetwood Mac’s new lineups.

What: Sydney’s premier guitar event, the festival celebrates the diverse instrument’s rich history. Leading the lineup is Australia’s world acclaimed acoustic guitar icon Tommy Emmanuel CGP. From classical to blues, acoustic to rock, this festival is the perfect chance to see some of Australia and the world’s best guitarists doing what they do best.
Why: It’s 2019, so we’re not quite sure what ‘doing what they do best’ means exactly. It’s impossible to keep up with common drug parlance these days.
