Flip Your Collar Up and Look Pissed Off; The Dead of Winter Festival Is Here.
How does one describe the incidence of Russian punk at a theatre that is currently featuring a ticketed performance involving commercial dance pieces interspersed with contemporary ballet?
‘Legal‘.
That’s how.
Yes. In a way that won’t cause a moment of upset to any reigning authority, a festival of punk will be sidling into Brisbane’s Tivoli under the name of ‘Dead of Winter Festival’.
The festival brings together lovers of all things heavy and dark from far and wide.
The 2019 event includes prog heavyweights Cog, live show kings Mammal, punk royalty Bodyjar and 28 Days along with QOTSA’s Nick Oliveri, heavy lords Aversions Crown, Perth’s Voyager, Russian punk outfit Svetlanas, Israel’s Elephant Hive and many more.
But music is only part of the Dead Of Winter offering, with this year’s festival set to be zombie-fied as a horde of Australia’s best SFX make-up artists face off against each other.
You’d think adding a little latex would push the festival into the realm of indecorous rebellion.
The operative phrase used by the hosts of the festival is “love thy neighbour”.
And there’s no smoking indoors.
So, UNLEASH ANARCHY!
In a quiet, lawful manner.
