10) Oz Comic-Con

What: Oz Comic-Con is back! 2019 will feature exciting multi-genre content from across the spectrum – appearances by film and television stars, comic book artists and voice actors; gaming demonstrations and cosplay competitions; creative workshops and master classes; and hard-to-find, exclusive merchandise from vendors.
Why: Get in on the trend now before it’s entirely overrun by middle aged men clutching little childrens’ pink pony dolls. You don’t have much time.

9) Boogs & Rebuke: 10 years of Thick as Thieves
8th June
What: The next instalment of #10YearsofTAT celebrates the beginning and the present of the Thick as Thieves journey. In true Thick as Thieves style they’re creating a 360 degree wall of entertainment and thrills to compliment a 5 hour Boogs retrospective set and a 2 hour show stopping set from Mike Toner’s cousin and emerging world DJ – Rebuke.
Why: 360 degrees of generic contemporary DJ music. No matter where you look, you’ll be underwhelmed and slightly nauseated.
8) Sake Matsuri
8th June
What: Taste and embrace both new and traditional styles of sake, from fine Junmai Daiginjo, Namazake, umami rich Junmai, to flavoursome aged Koshu nihonshu. To keep you on your feet, there’ll be delicious food available to purchase, cooked by some local legends.
Why: We’re not aware of anyone that has gotten so drunk on sake that they’ve needed food to keep themselves on their feet. But we’re not in the income bracket of people that can afford to buy more than a buzz of glorified monk spit.

7) Winter Wine Fest

What: Winter Wine Fest is the launch of the annual Winter Wine Weekend on Mornington Peninsula. 50 wineries and 8 restaurants come together in the middle of Red Hill in a big tin shed (or two) with space to enjoy under cover with live music, family and friends.
Why: What more pleasant phrase is there than ‘wine in a big tin shed’?

6) John Talabot Live
2nd June
What: Catalan DJ, producer and label owner John Talabot will be taking over the Revolver with support from Merve, Edd Fisher, Andee Frost and many more. The goal of this party is to provide a selection of curated spaces and sounds that align with the tastes of today’s underground.
Why: We’re going to characterise that taste as ‘too young to be that bitter’.

5) BushTechno

What: BushTechno has become iconic in Australia. “The bush” in this sense was something that IS uniquely Australian and very different from the green European landscapes. This same meaning goes for that “bushtechno sound”. It’s something to describe our landscape; a musical cultural movement that is unique to our native land. The future looks bright with producers and community gathering for this tribal psychedelic movement.
Why: Expect a lot of white people. A lot.

4) Animal Instincts: Mortisville and Friends
7th June
What: It’s time to embrace your animal instincts and dance into the forbidden forest of bass. Moodswing n Chevy bass have taken the festival circuit by storm. From Boomtown in the UK to Splendour in the Grass the duo have wowed crowds with their bombastic blend of vintage remix and bass house. The gang will all be back for this audio visual extravaganza with a bunch of new tracks to try out for the first time!
Why: A bass house band named for a fat impetuous racist irrelevant old Caddyshack alumnus? Perhaps bass house isn’t just for the young people. Makes sense. You need to be at least partially deaf to enjoy it.
3) Bodyjar and 28 Days Live
7th June
What: For the first time in many years Bodyjar and 28 Days are joining forces for a new wave punk trip around the country. Taking in some of the bands favourite places from throughout their careers this is sure to be part family reunion, but mainly a party not to be missed!
Why: New wave punk. It’s less aggressive. Don’t ‘f-k the establishment’. Reject the establishment’s advances in a firm but respectful manner.

2) Wo Fest feat. Wo Fat
8th June
What: Wo Fest will feature some of Australia & New Zealand’s greatest bands and solo artists in the Blues, Stoner, Psychedelic, Progressive, Sludge and Doom genres of Australia. Headlined by the one and only Texan Swampadelic Wizards Wo Fat & supported by NZs Pieces Of Molly along with local and interstate talent.
Why: We’ve heard of the first four, but not of the last two. But if ‘Sludge’ and ‘Doom’ genres are as pleasant as they sound, be thankful this is event is held in a bar.

3rd-9th June
What: The Melbourne International Jazz Festival is an annual, world-class jazz festival first held in 1998. The Festival takes place in concert halls, arts venues, jazz clubs and throughout the streets of Melbourne as the city comes alive with the spirit of jazz.
Why: Sydney’s blanketed with unsafe levels of haze. Come on, Melbourne, join in the fun.
