10) World Harmony Festival
18th May
What: The aim of this festival is to celebrate Harmony Day, to connect multi-ethnic and main stream communities and organisations and to enhance intercultural understanding & solidarity, in order to build a harmonious society. The festival will feature face painting, lion dancing, foam sword competitions, stalls, international food, multicultural performances, circus acts and a fireworks spectacular.
Why: Nothing screams harmony like mock fights to the death, clown contingents and exploding skyward fireballs.

9) International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia

What: Come together with the local community for this annual worldwide celebration to honour sexual and gender diversities. In 2019, this special event will include a remembrance gathering with special guest speakers, a memorial ceremony, lighting of the Powerhouse building and a musical tribute. 5) Sweet As Dessert Festival
12th May
What: An awesome line-up of Queensland’s best dessert makers will be providing a showground-full of brownies, cheese, chocolate, coffee, cupcakes, doughnuts, gelatos, ice-creams, macarons, marsh mallows, meringues, popsicles, sorbets, waffles and lots more. There will also be savoury street food, live music, pop-up bars, dessert cocktails, kids activities and entertainment.

4) Noosa Food & Wine Festival

3) Brisbane Street Art Festival
12th-19th May
What: BSAF returns in 2019 bigger and better than ever before with over 60 artworks being created by some of the most exciting street art practitioners from Brisbane, Australia and Internationally. The program reflects the diversity of the street art community with 27 prominent female street artists taking part, including Argentinean duo Medianeras and Colombian born Zurik who are helping to break gender disparity in street art.

2) Nicefest

What: Nicefest is Art As Catharsis’ showcase of exceptional progressive and cathartic local music. The Brisbane edition features: Big Dead, Turtle Skull (NSW), Balloons Kill Babies, The Unofficials, Common Deers and Monsterra. Come along with an open mind and discover some of the brilliant diversity of Australian underground music.
Why: It’s a bold claim that seven bands can represent the diversity of underground music. But then, it’s a bold claim that current underground music is anything more than recycled genres from bygone eras perverted through a synth and spewed out on a sweaty club dance-floor.

1) Blues on Broadbeach
16th-19th May
What: 18 years after its humble beginnings, the free multi-award winning festival has grown to become an event of international standing hosting the best of international and Australian blues musicians annually across 20 outdoor stages and venues throughout Broadbeach on the Gold Coast.
