10) Going Going Gone: Silent Auction for Dementia
25th April
What: Going going gone – In conjunction with the exhibition of works by RJ Williams in posthumous collaboration with Helmut Newton, Lyons Gallery will be hosting a silent auction this Anzac Day holiday with proceeds of auction donated to Dementia Australia. Lest we forget and hope to remember.
Why: Don’t worry if you forget to go. You’ll still technically be a part of it.
9) Ku-ring-gai Language Festival
27th April
What: The purpose of the festival is to show the great variety of languages in the world and to try to demonstrate that all languages are equally important and valuable. 12 languages will be presented in 20 minute installments, each covering their linguistic and cultural aspects.
Why: All the credit of seeming au fait with multiple languages without having to contribute more than 1 hour of your time.
8) Art Battle
26th April
What: Artists have 20 minutes to take their canvases from blank to beautiful, battling not only the clock but each other as well. Watch the paint fly before your eyes as the creative process unfolds and help vote to determine the Champion!
Why: Nothing says ‘legitimate artistic expression’ like a twenty minute time limit.

7) The Ledger Awards
26th April
What: Australia’s only comics-specific awards, created to celebrate, acknowledge and promote excellence in Australian comic books, graphic novels, web comics and comix.
Why: Because spending more than half of your total income to see the results of Chris Hemsworth’s vegan body building diet just isn’t enough recognition for the genre.

6) Exhibition Opening Event for Platter
24th April
What: This exhibition will show paintings from six talented artists from the east and the west with different cultural backgrounds including Ning Chen, Michael Downs, Shaohua Nong, Jianhai Niu, Yifeng Tan and Deqing Zhang. How could they fill this platter together? Let’s look forward to it!
Why: Like the bilious aftermath of an all-you-can-eat multi-cuisine buffet.
5) Earth Day Eco-Fair
23rd April
What: Get creative at the recycled art and sculpture workshop, hear from local environmental groups and see this year’s Sculptures at Bayside exhibition.
Why: An earth day event that requires vehicular transport to access. Contemporary art wouldn’t be contemporary art without irony.

4) The Sydney Royal Easter Show
21st-23rd April
What: The Easter Show is a celebration of Australian culture, from rural traditions to modern day lifestyles, providing unique experiences for everyone. Every Easter, the country and city join together at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, for nine days of agricultural competitions, animal experiences, live entertainment, carnival fun, shopping and much more.
Why: Judge the potency of a dog, decorate the carousel in bile-infused Cheese Burger Pie and romantically lather a chicken all at once. It is truly a singular event.

3) Sydney International Comedy Festival
22nd April-19th May
What: Sydney’s biggest month of comedy returns with hundreds of the world’s funniest comedians taking to stages across the city! 2) Byron Bay Bluesfest
21st & 22nd April
What: Australia’s premier music festival. More than 200 performances on 5 stages over 5 days, camping, 5 licensed bars, over 100 food and market stalls, undercover food courts, beer gardens, and children’s entertainment. This year’s 30th Anniversary features the likes of Tash Sultana, Ocean Alley, Norah Jones, Paul Kelly and Iggy Pop amongst many, many others.
Why: A music festival featuring both Iggy Pop and…ska music. This is a disturbing future.
