Top 10 Sydney Revelry On this week 20/01/2019
It’s time, Sydney. And what better time is there than any point in time to get plastered?
10) D-NOX with The Junction
25th January
What: Welcome in 2019 with one of the most inspirational and talented underground and techno artists. His unique sound and dynamic ability is not to be missed.
What: There’s nothing like welcoming in the redemptive air of a new year like the sounds that made DEVO famous.

9) Oliver Koletzki: Civic Underground After Party
19th & 20th January
What: If you know DJ Oliver, you’re aware of his abilities to play different styles of music, delivering what is needed in that specific moment. Now we’re giving the opportunity to see him from a different perspective: night, dark, melodic.
Why: Think of it like the iPod shuffle loaded with generic music at the apple store…in human form.
8) 80’s Replay Australia Day Night Harbour Cruise
26th January
What: Dance away to the best 80’s Retro & Funk Party Classics overlooking the beautiful Harbour or relax on the top deck and enjoy the spectacular view on this special one off 80’s night cruise.
Why: They say one-off. But it’s the 80s. It’s one-off in the way that the Rolling Stones had a one-off farewell tour.
7) Lunar Circus: Burlesque, Acrobatics and Circus Show
25th January
What: Cheeky fun will be served through dazzling physical feats of strength, breathtaking dance routines and a splash of mayhem at the prestigious GPO Grand offering a total dining and entertainment experience you won’t forget.
Why: Or you could stay home and watch porn. Just admit it. Society is far too over-exposed to still consider Burlesque entertaining. And even so, it’s still hard to stomach gourmet food when you’re wondering how much steriliser they’ve had to scrub on the tables in order to pass the health inspection.
6) SELINA’S presents SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM
25th January
What: SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM have just hit No 1 in the UK Club Charts – with their new track “Can’t Help the Way That I Feel”! Don’t miss them playing at the iconic SELINA’S! It’ll be a hell of a party.
Why: Remember? Yeah. They’re not dead. Those guys that featured at every preteen disco party. Seems, just like disco itself, the past seems to be coming back not in the form of your mother’s delicious butter cookies, but in the form of your mother’s abusive alcoholic boyfriends.
5) Flickerfest
11th-20th January
What: One of the leading Australian competitive short film festivals and increasingly filmmakers view it as one of the main festivals on the world circuit, ensuring greater opportunities for our Australian short film makers internationally.
Why: There’s no better way to spend time with friends and family than in a film theatre when you’re not allowed to talk to each other.

4) Florence + The Machine 2019 Tour
26th January
What: Florence + The Machine’s latest album – and the album upon which this latest tour is based – is as intimate as it is epic, venturing into new sonic territory whilst reaching back to Florence’s roots. As Florence describes it, it is “is a pure expression of who I am now, as an artist, and an honest one.”
Why: Respect where respect is due. It takes a hell of a lot of honesty to characterise the pure essence of oneself as the studio cutting floor of every first year university indie band pasted together and processed in garageband.
3) The Island LIVE: Official Electric Gardens Sydney Pre-Party
25th January
What: The Island LIVE hosts its first event for 2019 with the return of the Official Electric Gardens Pre-Party! It’s a very special Public Holiday Eve showdown, opening doors at 3pm to enjoy the glorious Sydney sunshine and kick off the long Australia Day weekend with a bang! Featuring: Bag Raiders (DJ Set), Groove City, Lex Deluxe and UNDR Ctrl DJs.
Why: The thing before the main event. You know. Like how you just can’t miss the open mic section before the thing that you paid to see comes on.
2) Electric Gardens Festival
26th January
What: Electric Gardens returns on with an all-star line-up showcasing the very best of electronic and house music! House maestro Erick Morillo and techno legend Eats Everything will be leading the charge while Balance Series host the second room with a progressive line up to die for!
Why: Funny. We always assumed the name electric gardens was a name of some war atrocity. Turns out it’s much worse.
1) Sydney Festival
9th-27th January
What: 18 world premieres, city-wide free events and art in some very unusual places. Sydney Festival is descending upon summer exploding with music, theatre, dance, opera, visual arts, ideas, free and family events.
Why: Dump your awful visiting relatives in the middle of the colourful and distracting circus, sneak back home behind a troupe of street performers in offensively snug leotards and change the locks to your front door.
