What: Join two renowned international composers on a haunting and mesmerising sonic journey. These two giants of experimental sound create hypnotic sonic experiences – minimal, mysterious and meditative – using synthesizers and obsolete analogue technologies that will expand your sense of time, space and self.
Why: Or just hang outside of the club and ask anyone coming out after the show, ‘what’s so great about synth music’? The resultant four hour lecture will undoubtedly expand your sense of time and space into a horror that will last beyond eternity.
4) Leisure Pleasure: A Sunset Beach Party

What: Welcome to Leisure Pleasure. A beachfront pachanga thoughtfully serving light, sound and dance in the open air… as the sun goes down. Music crafted for maximum enjoyment, idyllic surrounds for infinite experience.
Why: We’ll admit, we had to look up the word ‘pachanga’. It is apparently a forerunner of salsa with a festive, lively style, marked by jocular, mischievous lyrics. There. That’s our cultural education for the week. Now we can return to lazily appropriating other cultures in blissful ignorance.
3) Joan Jett
16th January
What: For their 2019 Australian tour Joan Jett and The Blackhearts have chosen Melbourne – the rock capital of Australia – for one exclusive headline performance. ‘I Love Rock ’n Roll’, ‘Bad Reputation’, ‘Do You Wanna Touch’, ‘Cherry Bomb’ and tonnes more live at the Corner Hotel. Damn straight!
Why: We accept that the musical legends will never die. But perhaps when they reach a point of changing life insurance policies based on age they should at least stop asking people ‘Do You Wanna Touch’?

2) Electric Gardens Festival
18th January
What: Electric Gardens returns on with an all-star line-up showcasing the very best of electronic and house music! House maestro Erick Morillo and techno legend Eats Everything will be leading the charge while Balance Series host the second room with a progressive line up to die for!
Why: Funny. We always assumed the name electric gardens was a name of some war atrocity. Turns out it’s much worse.
1) FOMO
13th January
What: The epic one-day, one-stage music festival returns featuring Nicki Minaj, Rae Sremmurd, Mura Masa, Kali Uchis, San Holo, Anna Lunoe, Sophie, Cosha, Carmouflage Rose, Just a Gent and Mimi.
Why: We’ve been reliably in formed that this is a big thing. To which we took offence. We know that this festival of the loud and mediocre is a big thing. In the same way a hair salon being set on fire after grooming a convention of craft beer enthusiasts would be a big thing.
