Top 10 things On in Brisbane this week 06/01/2019
We’re throwing you in the deep end, Brisbane. Of a ball pit.
10) The 5K Foam Fest
12th January
What: The 5K Foam Fest is a one of kind obstacle course based fun run. 22+ obstacles including the world’s largest inflatable waterslide, mud pits and 2.5 million cubic feet of foam!
Why: And not just the kind of foam that starts leaking from your every orifice about 5 minutes into a ‘fun run’.

9) Surfing Round The World Tour and Venue Launch
10th January
What: Australian Music Royalty, GANGgajang, launch their 2019 Surfing Round the World Tour on at the new Doo Bop Gatsby Room with a meet and greet afterwards.
Why: Perhaps upon the meet and greet you could ask them to pronounce their name? We’ve not had any luck and we’re starting to somehow sound racist.
8) Save Ur Life
10th January
What: Colossus Records and the At 8 Show will bring you the hottest emerging bands in the Brisbane scene for a night to remember; They will donate the money made from the night to “No More Plastic Co.” that will be used for global meetings and cleanups to prevent plastic pollution around the world.
Why: Indie bands? Plastic pollution prevention? We’re not sure which is the worthier charity.

7) Luke Marshall – Shelter & Rain EP Launch
6th January
What: Luke Marshall is an artist creating songs from an open and honest space – descriptive lyrics, swirling energies and ambient soundscapes. His second EP ‘Shelter & Rain’ is a creation of beautiful music fusing dreamy ambience, acoustic folk and emotive lyrics.
Why: We don’t know much about this guy’s opus, but we have to make a disclaimer of sorts. It’s held at a bar. Enough liquor can make the Sex Pistols seem ‘dreamy’.
6) Aussie Gin Masterclass
12th January
What: 4 Brand Ambassadors from the following distilleries, Adelaide Hills Distillery, Cape Byron Distillery, Four Pillars and Patient Wolf, will be explaining the subtle differences between styles and expressions of their gins.
Why: Yeah, don’t worry. You don’t have to pretend like you’re listening or even able to discern the difference between the different gins. The beauty of gin is that no matter how it’s prepared it’ll always taste like an early grave.

5) Hospitality
6th January
What: Hospitality is the worldwide club event of top UK D&B imprint Hospital Records. From humble beginnings Hospitality has grown to become a true titan of the scene, known for its feel good music policy featuring bass heavy music, a friendly atmosphere and high quality production.
Why: Nothing so visually evokes the word ‘hospitable’ like a bunch of people bashing into each other in a cramped club screaming at you to ‘party’.

4) RA!SC presents: Primitive Calculators & The Goon Sax ft. Lilith
12th January
What: The Primitive Calculators – acclaimed noise punk savants & key participants of the little band scene, will be making the trip up from Melbourne to the broadish Brisbane region in support of their latest LP ‘On Drugs’.
Why: What more lyrical and complex genre of music is there than the one called …’noise punk’?
3) Gin Discovery
12th January
What: Whether you’re an experienced juniper junkie or new to the world of gin, sit down with Dutch Courage & enhance your appreciation of this amazing spirit.
Why: Nothing so effectively evokes the image of enhanced appreciation than downing a substance that smells like an industrial paint thinner.

2) The Brick Bar and Ball Pit Party
12th January
What: This Pop-Up, is the first of its kind and will consist of over 1 million blocks, transported and assembled into the ultimate nostalgia trip! There will bricks for you to play with and also local DJ’s spinning tunes all day, lots of prizes to be won and games to battle with your friends and frienemies.
Why: Don’t worry. We’ve never picked up a real brick before either, and we sure as hell aren’t going to start now. Unless of course, as in this case, those bricks are made of burger meat and possibly legos. The pop-up with burgers and cocktails will have you severely questioning whether you’re allowed to use the term ‘lego’ without infringing on copyright.
1) Sasha Velour Live
10th January
What: A 75-minute one-woman show lovingly created and staged by Sasha Velour, winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 9. Throughout the show, you’ll be taken on a journey by your favourite high-fashion goddess through the unique, hyper-gendered queer fantasia that is drag!
Why: The most enjoyable method of giving your rich bigoted grandmother the violent aneurism you need to claim the inheritance.
