Top 10 things On in Brisbane this week 23/09/2018

Oh, Brisbane. Ever heard of ‘saving the best for last’? Well…we’ve uh not exactly done that with this list. Spring’s here. Savour the smaller moments.

10) Women for Women for the World

29th Sep

Free food and drinks. Oh yes, and a chance to mop up some of your corruption with a poultry donation to a cause that seems vaguely important. Did we mention free food and drinks?

9) Queer Pride: Closing Symposium & Celebration

29th Sep

“A boardroom-meets-town-hall event for diverse queer identifying individuals and artists“. Here it is, Brisbane. Your intellectual credit for the week. Don’t worry though. There’s free food. We’d never leave you hanging.

8) 31st Annual Karadjordjev Kup Weekend

28th-19th Sep

Don’t bother. You won’t get it right. And it’s one of the least enjoyable ways to strain your tongue. It’s just not worth it. But, do, come on down to a massive weekend festival in celebration of Serbian culture including food, folk performance, dance parties and a Grand Final celebration.

7) Riffin’ For Rain

29th-30th Sep

And this time, they don’t only mean ‘make it rain (money)’. In a refreshing yet admittedly harrowing change of pace, a mix of rock, indie and pop performers are coming together to fundraise money for drought-afflicted farmers. And, you know, if you know or are a shaman, we’re sure they wouldn’t object to a rain dance or two.

5) Screen It! Film Festival

29th Sep

We know. An oddly forceful and overbearing way to describe a series of short films in competition with each other, but it is held in a place called Helensvale. And we all know a bitch called Helen.

4) Brisbane’s Premier Food & Wine Expo

28th-30th Sep

A weekend of you cramming your gob with free wine anf food. But, you know. It’s called the PREMIER food and wine EXPO. That makes you a cultured person exploring the creativity of….you know…et cetera.

3) Australian Robowars Nationals

29th Sep

Look, we don’t need to sell you on this. A bunch of robots killing the crap out of each other. There’s never been a been a better way to redirect and expunge your pent up rage towards Apple.

2) Riverfire

29th Sep

Well, it’s not that farfetched to imagine. Our rivers are basically vats of chemical run off. Who’s to say that this night of partying on the riverfront with champagne, a 9 course canapé menu, Peroni and live DJs won’t be silhouetted by a river actually on fire?

1) Cher – Here We Go Again!

28th Sep

Oh, boy. We’ve never been advocates of the exclamation point. However, in this case it seems her tour managers have had the foresight to preemptively dictate how we would otherwise inflect the tour name in our heads. The pop icon and exclamation point enthusiast is back.
