Top 10 things On in Brisbane this week 12/08/2018
It’s a week of beginnings, endings and resurrections for you, Brisbane. But don’t worry. It’s got nothing to do with your plumbing. Although you might want to cut back on the chilli.
10) Racing Industry Awards Night
15th August
Champagne? Fancy gowns? Canapes? A racing event when you won’t once have to actually get off your lazy ass? What could be better?

9) Is This Even Art Anymore? Exhibition
18th August
Salty. Sorry…Salta. That’s the name of the artist hosting this thing. A night of impressionist artworks that clearly has no relation to the size of the artists’ ego. Also, the artworks are for sale.
8) Strawberry Festival
18th August
An entire festival dedicated to a berry. With farm fresh strawberry stalls, strawberry milkshakes, chocolate coated strawberries and the return of The Strawberry Patch Bar that will specialise in an all strawberries drinks menu. And a very colourful post-coffee event for the following morning.

7) Multicultural Carnivale – 30 Years at Kangaroo Point
12th August
30 years. 30 years of having to fight (via radio) against the clearly prevalent racism in Australia. They bloody well deserve a celebration. And you deserve a field crammed with as much food as you can cram down yourself that doesn’t contain the phrase ‘meat pie’ or the word ‘vegemite’.
6) Psycroptic/Archspire/Hadal Maw
16th August
The rawest gods of death metal Psycroptic, Archspire and Hadal Maw will be taking up arms (and probably consuming them live on stage) for one night in each Australian city. Get ready, mortals. Breathe deep. For this is perhaps the one time you will ever experience the fear-inducing silence before the assault…the assault heralded by the fiercest Canadian, Tasmanian and Melbournian warriors. Like we said…it’s a one time only kind of thing.
5) Kerbside Collection Live
17th August
Don’t get too excited, kids. This isn’t a catered dumpster dive where you can find your next magnificent three-legged piano stool-cum-dining table. No this the gritty funk stylings of the newest indie band on the Australian scene live at the Green Owl. Crisp. Tight. Fresh.

3) Art Meets Science Exhibition Opening
13th August
Yeah. Remember that? That old university debate between arts and science? That debate heralded always by the kids that never seemed to graduate with anything above a passing grade? Come. Celebrate in the orgy of the two disciplines; a “chance to view exciting digital interactive work; performance; visual art; and sculpture from 22 leading and emerging Queensland artists working in the nexus between art and science.“
2) R.I.P. Oh Hello!

You think opening parties are wild? Well, you’ve obviously never partied with a vendetta.
1) Pink: The Beautiful Trauma
14th-23rd August
One hell of a pyrotechnical stunt spectacle to compensate for other possibly…lacking elements.
