Footy finals round 1 done. What’s next?

Wow, that last NRL finals round! Closest games in history, controversial ref decisions and some amazing performances. The next round can’t come soon enough…

The Broncos who got pipped last week by the Roosters will be playing the Panthers who knocked out Manly on Friday up at Suncorp Stadium. Moylan confirmed as not playing for Penrith. It’s a big ask for Penrith to win in the Broncs backyard.

The Cowboys ended the reigning champ Cronulla’s season so now face the Eels who almost got over Melbourne at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night but not quite. Cowboys have done way better than anyone thought without Thurston, but can it continue?

Roosters and Storm get the week off.

The AFL on the other hand had a few thumpings in round 1 of the finals.

Sydney walloped Essendon and Geelong thumped Richmond so the Swans and the Cats meet at the ‘G’ in Melbourne on Friday night.

Since Adelaide smashed GWS and West Coast snuck home over Port in the only challenging game of the round, the Crows and Richmond get the week off.

So that leaves GWS Giants vs West Coast Eagles in the other game of the round on Saturday night at Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.
